I noticed this whilst browsing looking for a site. Can't recall which site but I did email asking why, was very polite but curious. Never got a reply.

Our tent is no bigger than van and awning either. if the charge was for multipodded huge tents could understand, but this was a tent charge, so even if you was in a small four man tent you'd be charged more than huge 6 berth van with awning!!!

Must be that these sites are raking in the cash with vans and dont mind loosing business from tents,, i for 1 would look else where.

Looking at this thread with interest, so see what outcome is on reason

I don't mind paying the same as a motorhome/caravan but as others have said if I am paying the same I should have the same choice of pitch (including hardstanding if I choose). Some sites will allow that for tents and some wont. Don't understand the logic and that makes me remove them from my virtual brochure.

Some years ago we stayed at Exe Valley site and were charged £3 per night extra for (large tent) this being anything over 3 mtrs wide (hardly a large tent methinks). I asked why and was told it was the grass damage even though we only stayed 3 nights. This didn't apply to caravans with awnings however. As you were required to move the tent if you were there more than 7 days to protect the grass, I thought this was a con. I believe this rule still applies on that site. The site is no longer on our list of preferred sites.

Lets face it some sites do all they can to discourage tents.

Forgot to mention in my post, we go to France a lot and have never come across this problem over there. The pitch is the pitch and you pay the same no matter what your outfit.

They are also far more relaxed about groundsheets affecting grass (many site pitches are quite bare by the end of the season but that never seems to bother them) .Wish some of our site owners were the same.

While I am at it it is also noticable that they dont charge extra at Easter, May or Whit bank holidays. Also wish our site owners did the same and stop penalising families with children.

I have found another one.  It is really nice site, a big plus for the four legged kind.

   BUT

Tenters pay more for less.  than caravanners.  Caravenners pay less for more!!!!

I bet I have got you stumped.hee, haa lol

Heather

P.s It is a really nice site so I may over look the anomaly.
