Seem to be having problems using the search facility on this site i.e. only able to get camp sites via areas yet looking for a friendly campsite in the lake district (only want to travel about 1.5 hours from Lpool) with electric hook-ups, showers and possibly a play area for the kids. Appreciate any recommendations.
Many thanks
J

Eskdale C & CC site is a good one - friendly, not too big, has ehu, spotlessly clean showers and loos, on-site shop, kids play area and lovely little stream running through the site. Very child and dog-friendly pub just across the field in the village with a good kids play area in the garden and serving excellent meals. Miniature steam railway down the lane which is a nice ride to Ravenglass, and surrounded by beautiful countryside and scenery. I stayed there last month for the first time and loved it.

Shaun, the landlord of the pub - The Boot Inn - is a great guy and a total nutter. Brilliant with kids, and he does an egg and spoon race where they are timed over an obstacle course in the garden - up and over the tables, down the slides, through the tunnel etc, I did it myself in a mad moment and it was great fun!

It was my first time on a C & CC site and my first time to that area of the Lakes, and I'd only really gone as I got talked into meeting up with another UKCS member and his wife. And I was well impressed, with both the site and the area, so I will certainly be going back again.
Thanks for the tip about St. Bees, I didn't know about that so it's now on my list of places to visit/photograph next time I'm up there.
