We are staying at woolacombe bay for a week in June for my partners birthday, can anyone reccommend a nice restaurant in the area that we can go to for the birthday meal - either walking distance or cab distance?

Most restaurants are down in Woolacombe village. Have a look at the reviews on TripAdvisor

Problem is, they seem to change hands every few seasons, and reviews get quickly out of date.

Whatever, there are quite a few in the village, which is about 1/2 mile from the site. But walking back up is very steep - you're about 500' above sea level!

If you are staying in the Woolacombe Bay Campsite (The W/B group  have four altogether Woolacombe Bay, Twitchen Park, Easewell farm Park and Golden Coast) you are spoiled for choice in the village of Mortehoe. If you fancy it it is about 3/4 mile walk thro' the fields via Twitchen Park or a short journey by car or taxi. If it was me on a pleasant evening I'd walk to the village and Taxi home.

In Mortehoe there are three pubs The Chichester Arms, Smugglers Inn and the Ship Aground plus Rockleigh House Restaurant. Not been in the Smugglers but there is a nice atmosphere in all the other three and the food is good.  There is also a Fish & Chip Shop in the square with outside tables if your on a tight budget!!!. If you feel like travelling a little further afield then the Grampus Inn in picturesque Lee Bay is about two miles away by car. A popular place in Woolacombe is the Red Barn - food is good and value for money. There are lots of other restaurants in Woolacombe which get busy most weekends.

If I were you have a mooch around Mortehoe stick your head in the doors of each pub and make your mind up. I don't think you'll be disappointed. If you drive  the village car park is withing 150 yards of all four places but have a stroll out  towards Morte Point or to Bull Point Lighthouse to work up an appetite.

There is a bar / restaurant that I can really recommend ,if you have transport try The Railway at Black more Gate.
Very friendly service and many special selections including 2 for 1.

The Fortesque arms is extremely popular. Its on the bend before you start to drop down into Woolacombe. They have their own website if you google it, with example menus etc.

Another vote for The Fortesque arms, or the Red Barn in Woolacombe itself.

have had good meals in both.

Just returned from Woolacombe Bay on Sunday. As previously mentioned there are a number of places in Mortehoe which are in reasonable walking distance. Chichester Arms is nice and quaint inside. Also worth a mention (although we didn't get there) is Mortehoe Shellfish which does large seafood platters on an evening.

I can also recommend Squires. Whilst fish & chips is their big seller they do a range of other fish dishes and the steak and kidney pie looked very good.

On a nice evening there is also outside dining at The Old Mill on the edge of the Golden Coast site (also part of Woolacombe Bay Group). This does get very busy with families though if you were looking for a quiet meal.

If you want to push the boat out the Courtyard and the restaurant at the Woolacombe Bay Hotel in Woolacombe look nice whilst Trimstone Manor is only a couple of miles away heading towards Croyde.

There's probably too much choice in fact!
