Hi

I am travelling to padstow from glasgow this summer. could anyone suggest a good stop over campsite or services. I have my wife and a two year old with me. I did the run last year with no kids and stopped at exeter services not the best services i have been in. any suggestions would be much appreciated.Forgot to say we are towing a caravan.

What about a Midlands site?  Kingsbury Water Park or Conkers - both C&CC sites.  The CC sites at Tewkesbury or Blackmore, Malvern are both relatively close to the Motorway system.

I expect that you'd be coming up the M6, so how about Garstang - close to the motorway, on on as far as Tebay services & campsite. (regarded as best motorway services for food)

We have found in the past if you are traveling during the main school summer holidays in England, especially on a Friday night, once you are on the M5 the services can be really busy. On several occasions we have had to keep going until we get one with space to stop.
It dosent say in your profile whether you have a caravan or a tent, so if you werent towing finding somewhere to park a car might be easier.
We usually like to get as far south as we can, before stopping, but dont think we have ever stopped at the services you mention.
What facilities are you looking for from services?

It really depends just how far you want to travel before you stop. the total journey is about 530 miles and halfway is just N of Birmingham, I know of nothing around there. But just south of Birmingham the CCC site at Clent Hills is easy to access and not inconvenient for travelling, slightly further is the CC or the CCC site at Malvern, but my choice would be the CC site at Tewkesbury which is 320 miles from Glasgow.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

Just noticed you are towing a caravan. Should finish reading posts, before replying.
We have stopped at Clent Hills it is very easy to get to.

we did same run last year & did it in a oner..... stopped every 100 miles for a break & stretch of legs.  we have 2 younger teenagers & they coped brilliantly with it.

left home at 3pm & missed all rush hour traffic.  when we got into devon noticed lots of caravans in lay by's but really didnt fancy that.

if your site has a late arrivals park then you can really arrive at any time & get a sleep when you get there.

we did it in about 11 hours.

This is exactly what we said we would do, if we were to go to this area again. Its perhaps different for us as we share the driving and are used to being awake at night,due to working nights.
It is a long way to drive if you are not used to it.
If I didnt want to drive all night, I would be inclined to get to well below Birmingham and then wait until 8am before I restarted the journey. This would hopefully mean that the caravans in the laybys on the road you mention, might have moved. We found this to be a big problem at 6am, there was nowhere to stop had you needed to.

hi elder13,
we are traveling from fife to devon in june with a tent 2&4yr olds(should be fun)lol.
we have decided to buy a small overnighter tent and stop at 2 campsites on the way down,give them a chance to play rather than be stuck in hotel room or car for 11hrs.
will just make it part of the holiday.
