Hiya,

Am looking to take my 2, 20weeks old lab boys with me on my camping adventures. I have a large cage/crate which they sleep in overnight or for short periods of time at home, which I plan on taking with me.

I was gonna get a couple of wind breaks to make an enclosure for when we are at the tent.

Just wondered if there are any tips in general dog wise or indeed any rules which I may need to be wary of?

not all people like dogs,so make sure they are tethered, some sites insist on them being on leash of less than 3 metres.Make sure you clean up their mess, nothing worse than treading in you know what.ours love being away, and are very quiet at night.

It sounds like a good idea to take the crates to give them some familiarity, and the windbreak enclosure is also a good idea.

Apart from the obvious stuff about keeping them under control and cleaning up after them, my best advice is to wear the little beggars out during the day, then they are too tired to be naughty in the evenings!!

In general, dogs love being in your company, so camping / caravanning with you is their idea of doggy heaven! Enjoy!!

Ours come everywhere with us (including camping in the tent and in the motorhome)

The Delta dog tethers are good.  (search the threads on here) much better than the corkscrew types that you can trip over.

We have one of those plastic boxes/crates full of dog stuff - including toys from home, dog bowls (water & food), spare leads, spare collars, dog treats, tennis balls, a whistle, clicker etc etc.  At least then I know everything is there and they also get excited when they see it coming out the garage!!

Buy a big roll of swing bin liners.  We buy the Tesco basics (really cheap) and very handy for dog poo bags

Do your dogs eat kibble?  You might want to buy an airtight container to carry their "holiday supplies" in

We take plenty of blankets and cover the floors/bedding in the tent or motorhome

Towels - take a towel for each dog for wiping wet feet/drying if it rains

Dustpan and brush - very handy for sweeping out doghairs from a tent!

At home, our two sleep in their own small dog beds during the day but together in a large dog crate at night.

Away in the FC, they sleep in their dog beds at night and we do not take the crate.

Well, actually, the above is "in my dreams", because 2 seconds after I start snoring, two white furry cushions can be felt creeping into my bed and curling up behind my knees.

FC sleepy heads
