We have just booked our "summer" holiday at the above site, based on the reviews we have read. It sounds too good to be true......£14 per night in aug for the two of us plus our 3 year old girl. Has anybody else stayed here and if so, can you reccommend any days out/attractions for us (late 30's) and a 3 year old munster!!

My sister has been to this site and keeps telling me to go there.
She said it's the prettiest and friendliest place they have ever been.

So you’re one of those crazy people who decide to come to Shrewsbury for their holidays? (although maybe as a local I’m a little prejudiced against my hometown!)

Joking aside, I’ve driven past Cartref a few times and it looks a nice little site!

You may be interested to know that the Cross Gates pub in Ford has been renovated (it’s about half a mile further down the A458 from where you turn for the campsite), haven’t been yet but it’s been revamped as a country pub/restaurant and is supposed to be nice. Also, in the neighbouring layby is Dinkys Dinah truckstop café, who do the best sausage and egg sandwiches known, very popular with people travelling to mid wales!

Depending on when abouts in August you are going, Shrewsbury Flower Show takes place in the Quarry (town park), it is quite expensive (presumably to keep us horrible little locals from going), but is quite a good day. The firework displays on Friday and Saturday night are excellent. Shrewsbury Castle is interesting as well!

Although it is a bit of a pain as they are setting up for the Flower Show, the Quarry is nice when the weather is good, pay a visit to The Boathouse pub, it’s quite dear but nice on a good day.

If you plan on spending the day in Shrewsbury, I would recommend going to the Oxon Park and Ride (this is signposted from the main road) it is cheaper than parking, quite reliable and less hassle than driving into town.

Going further afield I would well recommend a visit to Ironbridge Gorge, and also in that neck of the woods is Blists Hill, this is a living museum from the area’s industrial past and is great for all ages, it even has a Victorian chip shop, pharmacy and sweet shop!

Went to Cartref about 3 years ago. Its a brilliant little site for the price.

Would defo recommend a day out at Wonderland in Telford (bout half hour away) as well. We've got 2 young daughters and been there twice in the last 3 years.

Thanks very much for all the advice, really helpful stuff.

It is so important to get good local info prior to staying somewhere, that was you don't spend time and money on stuff thats no good. Thanks again...

Just remembered there are pleasure boat rides in Shrewsbury, from an area called Victoria Quay, next to the Quarry.

Think it's about £6-£7 for an adult, small kids free. Lasts about an hour and covers the scenic parts of the town.

Never been before but Powys Castle is supposed to be a good day out, it's the other way, in Welshpool

I have put a review on about this - stayed there for one night on way home so not explored too much although live less than an hour away!!  It was the best value site I think I have ever been to - facilities excellent.  There aren't many like this..

We have just have returned this afternoon from this site after spending a week there, we are regular visitors.

It is situated in the country away from noisy main roads and very high standards are maintained. Alan & Pat who own this site will give you a very warm welcome.
