We have booked to go here in July, has anyone stayed there and can recommend to us the best area to pitch in. Our kids are teenagers so we don't need to be by the play area, Reading some of the reviews it seems some of the pitches can be quite tight.
We know when we get there it will be a case of what pitches are free, but would like a general idea of the ones best avoided.
Thanks
------------- Julie

It's difficult to advise really as you won't really get the jist of it until you see the site yourself. When we arrived last September the site was heaving and we hardly had any choices of pitches left so were pitched right up the top of the site backing onto the road that goes to Dartmouth. I would say avoid here as there is evident road noise but this didn't take the enjoyment out of our stay.
Some of the "cul-de-sac" areas with hedges around are especially tight, If you can get any of the pitches around the perimeter of the site you will be fine. The sea view pitches tend to go first.
It's a HUGE site and we had to drive around it twice for a pitch and I still didn't get my bearings!
Can highly recommend the food in the restaurant - good value and tasty.

Hello we have stayed here 3 times now,,,,,made a terrrible mistake TWICE !! GOING DOWN A DEAD END CUL DE SAC !!, then having to reverse out as the pitch was for a motorhome and too small for our van. I would suggest you park up in the area near the toilets,,,or the area for late arrivals and walk round,,,if possible when you find one you want we left a person on that pitch to hold it for us till the driver got the van to the pitch as people are constantly arriving you may lose it. Same as the person above said try to avoid near the road on the perimeter, the pitches near to the club house and shop seem to go first, there is a HUGE variety of pitches regarding size, my stepdad had to take a pitch that required a full 180 degreee turn with the motor mover to access it hope you get lucky with a decent pitch, enjoy your holiday, its a fantastic site and will miss it this year,,,oh and a little tip take the ferry to Dartmouth, its brilliant taking your car across on the boat have fun x

Thanks Lozzie,we will do as you say and leave the kids at the pitch we choose.
We are not really bothered were we pitch so could you tell me if the indivual hedged pitches are larger or the cul de sac area's which take 4 units are larger. we have a conway crusader folding camper so the tight angles are not to much of a problem as we can unhook and push.
We will definetely take the ferry across to Dartmouth,
Thanks again

We used to go to Hillhead before it was taken over by the CC, we had a folding camper. We liked the pitches in the cul de sac area best, no passing traffic.
Dont think the pitch layout has changed an awful lot since then, but could be wrong.

You will be fine with a folding camper then. Can easily manouvre into any of the spaces. They are only tight for caravans without motor movers!
If you don't have dog, Blackpool Sands (by Dartmouth) is really a lovely beach.

You will love it as we have , been there many times for weekend breaks.
yes some pitches are tight but the wardens will help you pitch with the tractor if reqd, the pitches that are tight are at the end of the site going downhill on the lefthand side.
