Hi - we camped at an undeveloped campsite right on the cliff top near Bedruthan Steps a couple of years ago. I think its pretty temporary and only opens for a couple of months in the summer. Does anyone know if its still going? It was a fantastic place for sunsets as the sun just plopped into the sea in front of you and they allowed campfires - we'd love to go again but would hate to drive all the way to Cornwall to find it wasn't running and end up in a souless site.

I know the Carnewas area pretty well but I cannot recall seeing a campsite there. If it was temporary, as you suggest, it may not be operating now and is unlikely to be listed.
Was it on the privately-run car park (half-a-mile northeast of the National Trust carpark and visitor centre? That would place it above the northeast end of Bedruthan beach.
You could try phoning the nearby hotel (I think it is called Bedruthan House Hotel - not the Bedruthan Steps Hotel which is a mile away in Margan Porth). Or try phoning the TIO in Padstow on 01841 533 449.
Otherwise, I suggest you go and look for yourself. You say you would "hate to drive all the way to Cornwall to find it wasn't running and end up in a souless site" but there are a lot of campsites in that part of Cornwall, many of which are far from souless. So if the temporary site was no longer operating you could almost certainly find an attractive alternative.
If you want to camp near a cliff top, for example, try Trethias a few miles northeast of Carnewas.
This campsite is still open but only in August. It is the one in a big field with one shower and two toilets. A lovely man runs it and is very friendly.

We have passed this site many times over the years and always think it would be fantastic to wake up to that view but its a bit too basic for us.We use Carnevas just up the road near St Merryn and find their prices very good.
Many thanks all - have a week in July to find a campsite for if the Bedruthan Steps one is only operating in August - much better to be forewarned! Will check out Carnevas and Trethias as per your recommendations.
Just wanted to say that we stayed there last year in July. They had a basic website last year saying it was only open in July and August but it seems to have gone now. I was just searching for it on google and that was how I came across this post.
It is so beautiful and the man that runs it is so lovely. You should definitely drive past and check if it's there this year before heading to one of the others.
