There is a lot to do on-site but not much within walking distance. You can catch the steam train from Kelling Heath halt, it goes into Holt one way and Sherringham the other. If you are looking to get out each day though, I would take a second car.
I did phone the site and they were very nice and told me it was about a 10 min walk to the nearest village and about 30mins to the beach wasnt sure if this was exagerated or not as I will also be walking with a 5 year old ? Boys are generally happy to stay on site as there seems a lot to do but if we need to got to a shop to get food might as well wander to the beach first ?

I would say there is enough to do on site without leaving - it has a shop with a decent amount of food, there are 2 restaurants and a take-away, so you wouldn't have to go off-site to shop.
There's an outdoor pool and an indoor one (but have to pay extra for the indoor one and it's expensive), a couple of adventure playgrounds and lots of bike and walking trails. There's also a small indoor soft-play area which our kids loved.
I'm not sure if you can walk to the beach but even if it is 30 minutes, I wouldn't want to do that with a 5 year old and a load of beach clobber, but you may well be made of sterner stuff than me

The closest beach to Kelling isnt a very appealing one, I am pretty sure its Weybourne and thats all stones and shelves deeply, certainly not a child friendly beach. East Runton / Cromer beaches are much more appealing but you will definately need a car to get to them. Also Weybourne is the nearest village and from Kelling its down a big hill - unfortunately you have got to get back up it again too!
I'd agree with Debs the nearest beach is Weybourne, and there is nothing there at all. Not a kiosk, or toilet. When we visited Weybourne, so OH could fish, DD and I had to walk back into the village for the loo and a drink. Can't recall how long it took us but it wasn't five mins was longer. The village shop in Weybourne is tiny too, I've seen bigger camp shops. For beachs to play on Cromer is much nicer. I personally would take an extra car if you can.
The boys might enjoy muckleburgh tank collection just along from Weybourne.

When on the Norfolk coast we use the coastal hopper bus service, we went from Sheringham to wells and back for about 8 quid for a family of four. Cheap as chips and relaxing to.
