Has anyone camped at "Meadow Fleck Farm", Carsington recently? It's in CCC Big Sites Book as a CS but no reviews on here. Would like info if you have any.

Dave, Thanks for your recommendation. Looked up Carsington Fields on website and reviews. That's the one I'll use.

Also The Pudding Room campsite, there are several sites around that stretch of road including the CC Blackwell Plantation, stunning views and fantastic facilities around the Carsington Water visitors centre, and most of them for free.

If you plan to use their bike or watersports hire facilities then dont forget to bring two forms of photographic ID with you (Driving licence, Passport, Work pass ect) or they will not hire to you.

I hope you have a fantastic time, its one of our favourite dog walks as we live just a couple of miles down the road from it.

Thanks Romany Girl, my teenage and 20's were lived in Chesterfield with most weekends cycling or hiking in Peak District but before Carsington Water existed as such.

Doubt my body can use bike or watersports these days - more used to a walking stick or walker, but a good reminder of need for ID . Might attempt hiring a bike in Norfolk.

My brother lives in Bolehill, near Wirksworth which is one reason for visiting Derbyshire for first time in years.

Small world Mavis, most of my OHs family live in Wirksworth and he was born in The Dale at the bottom of Green Hill, and then lived in Cauldwell St for over 40yrs before I met him.

My Brother in law was the main haulage contractor to the Building of Carsington water around 1986, we watched it develop, and witnessed all the local protests against its creation, but its now turned out to be one of the best and most loved attractions and assets the area has to offer.

The visitor centre does have a large powerful 'Off road' type mobility scooter available to hire from the reception desk near the cafe entrance if you happen to fancy an explore around the dam wall and up the cycle paths and BBq areas!

I hope you have a lovely time and the weather is kind to you, if you need anymore info just ask and i will help where i can, we live about 6 miles from Carsington now, but my elderly Dad and step Mum live in the next Villiage, so im up there a few times every week visting them.

Julia

Thanks for that info Julia. It is indeed a small world. I'll contact the visitor centre about hiring a mobility scooter so I can get around better.
