Small world Mavis, most of my OHs family live in Wirksworth and he was born in The Dale at the bottom of Green Hill, and then lived in Cauldwell St for over 40yrs before I met him.
My Brother in law was the main haulage contractor to the Building of Carsington water around 1986, we watched it develop, and witnessed all the local protests against its creation, but its now turned out to be one of the best and most loved attractions and assets the area has to offer.
The visitor centre does have a large powerful 'Off road' type mobility scooter available to hire from the reception desk near the cafe entrance if you happen to fancy an explore around the dam wall and up the cycle paths and BBq areas!
I hope you have a lovely time and the weather is kind to you, if you need anymore info just ask and i will help where i can, we live about 6 miles from Carsington now, but my elderly Dad and step Mum live in the next Villiage, so im up there a few times every week visting them.
Julia
