Julie, it's a big place and contrary to those who think it only has a west coast, it also has a North coast, an East Coast, the borders and all the bits in the middle. Oh, and not forgetting the Western Isles, Orkney & Shetland.

So, depends where you want to go and how far you're prepared to travel.

Let me suggest that you look at 'UndiscoveredScotland' (all one word) for a few ideas.

I agree with Captain Lightening ... go East!

We are huge fans of East Lothian, Fife and Aberdeenshire.

One site that springs to mind with excellent views would be the Camping and Caravanning Club site at Dunbar.  Handy for Edinburgh and nice and quiet.

Hi julie,check out glen nevis campsite,just out side fortwilliam,me and the familey stayed there a few weeks back,best campsite we have stayed on,only the weather ruined it,we had to leave a day early,the site even gave us a full money refund for the day we lost,it is situated right at the foot of ben nevis,the scenery around you has to be seen to be beleved,the drive through glen coe on the journey to the site is also spectacular if scenery is what you want this is were to go.Going to go back in august myself.Hope you get something sorted.Few photos below to give you an idea.

My son and his family live in Fort William so we have been up there lots of times. The scenery on the way and when you get there is absolutely breathtaking, at any time of the year! Fort William itself is a great town with lots of individual shops, swimming pool, activity centre with ball park, bowling etc for all ages, not forgetting Ben Nevis and the Nevis range and also right on Loch Linnhie. Morrisons and Lidl are there too. We are hoping to go to the Glen Nevis site in July and taking our 2 grandsons ( who live in Fort William), for their first camping experience.

Ardmair Point, near Ullapool.  Fabulous views across the sea.  And surprisingly for the west coast, we've never been bothered by midges.  The west coast is spectacular, and an absolute MUST-SEE, but you'll need your midge-repellant .
