Any recommendations for a site for a 1st timer to try out for a weekend. 2 adults, 2 children (7 & 4).

Site in Buxton/Ashbourne area, ideally with kids play area. EHU needed as we want to try all equipment out.

Thanks in advance.

Shouldn't really recommend this for 3 reasons,

1) about 30 miles from Buxton and Ashbourne

2) you may not be that far away as you are from Derbyshire

3) If its your first time camping it will spoil you for any other campsite

Having made the reservations I will still say look at the Camping and Caravan Club site at Teversal (wish I could do links it would make it so much easier). The best shower blocks you will ever come across (hence comment 3) but as you are first time campers a bit of luxury does no harm. Just dont expect to get the same standard anywhere else.

If you are not C&CC members it may seem expensive but it will show you the standards that you should judge other sites by (and then realise why it is worth paying the extra).

Wherever you go, hope you have a great time for your first outing whatever the weather. Have fun!

The Camping & Caravanning Club site at Ashbourne is nice and has a small children's playground.

If you're booking for a couple and children, C&CC sites cost an extra £7.10 per adult per night for non-club members, which I imagine you are as it's your first time out. For members it would cost £26.35 a night (although there is a family rate for members which is about £5 cheaper), for you, as non-members, it would cost £40.55. That's only until the end of June, then it goes up for the summer. Exorbitant, if you ask me, it's only £39 a year to join, but then I suppose that's the idea. Rivendale is only £20.50 at the moment.

Lime Tree Park is beautiful and within walking distance to Buxton. Lovely clean showers and well established site with friendly staff.

Another vote for Lime Tree. Morrisons close by.

The best site in that whole area though has to be Barn Farm at Birchover. It's one of our favourite sites and have already been there twice this season. Close to Bakewell, Matlock, dead easy run to Ashbourne (dreadfull place) and of course 20 min drive to Dove Dale. Has a graet new play area, we love the place. I promise you will not be dissapointed if you go there. There isn't a local shop anymore though but whilst out and about there are plenty of supermarkets. Really, give this place a try.
