We have a 14 year old son who is reluctant to go camping anymore because many of the sites are not frequented by his age group. He has discovered girls and is only interested in going where there are plenty of boys and girls his own age. Anyone recommend a good site which accommodates kids of his age group (13-16 yrs.) and provides suitable facilities?

Thanks.

You need to start considering more commercial sites

Welcome to UKCS, kpmkane.  Sadly (just the way I would feel), you may need to look for something like a Haven site with a swimming pool and lots of extras.  There are plenty of these sorts of sites around and are frequented by families with teens, and have the sort of facilities you are likely to require.  If you could say which area you like to visit, then I'm sure those with teenage families will be able to help.

We went to Seacroft Caravan Club site (Cromer) last year and are going again for this summers holiday. They do have a tent field but no EHU (so no good for you if you are glampers!). There is a small club house / bar / restaurant and outdoor pool. My girls are 13 and 15 and absolutely loved it. In the club there is a pool table area and the kids gather there to "hang out". The entertainment always start early with the usual disco games for younger children followed by singers or a quiz or talent night sort of stuff. If last year is anything to go by, your son will be part of a friendly crowd by end of day 1.

what if you allowed him to bring a friend ? then they could go off playing football etc or exploring and he wouldn't be so "bored" ?

choose a site close to beaches / towns or whatever he is interested in

my 2 sons are happy so long as there is plenty of football playing space! with a woods to explore or a beach coming close second!

We went to Kiln Park (Haven) in Tenby with our 16 yr old daughter for the same reason...there were lots of younger teenagers so she was quite happy boy-watching:)

It was a little dear but sometimes it's better to pay the extra to avoid the bad atmosphere from a sulky brat.

Overall it's a good site on the beach so plenty of non-organised activities for the non-joiners-in :)

my son 15, skatebords ( its his life ) he said he will only go camping if he can go to a skate park and bring his mate,

So in the hols thats what we are doing,

my girl 14, BOY mad , my little girl 4 just wants to dance !!!!!!

so haven parks have something for them all,

But I agree i think the bigger parks are better for teenage kids,

Its so difficult isnt it? Hubby and I love C&CC certified sites, the smaller and more basic the better. Our kids are 10 and 12 now and the youngest likes to come bike riding with me and the eldest will happily spend the day fishing with his Dad.

As a treat I took the kids to Haven a couple of weeks ago and they were in absolute heaven. This would be their choice every time and I felt a bit guilty because we dont do this sort of camping very often.

I suppose the compromise is to do a bit of both. If I could find a site within an hours drive that has a decent fishing lake, a swimming pool and somewhere to play football then we would be there all the time, especially if it was fairly cheap!!

The above suggestion, though great, brought back memories of a nightmare holiday I once had. My elder daughter, about 13 at the time wanted a friend with us. We went to Primrose Valley. I was so paranoid about said friend's safety I wouldn't let them out my sight. They got far less freedom than my daughters were used to normally. They still talk of the holiday from hell and friend showed no inclination to ever come back on holiday with us lol.

You could try Searles at Hunstanton, plenty to do onsite as well as being within walking distance of the town centre and all the amusements, beech, and fairground, where he could walk and enjoy himself with a friend.

Its a great place for kite surfing as well, something a lot of the local lads his age are well into, and fairly safe at the right tides when its fairly shallow for a good distance out into The Wash.

You don't say where you want to go but Sandy Balls in the New Forest is quite good for older children. They do organised mountain bike rides/training, paintballing. We were there at Easter and there were lots of teenagers.
