This may seem like a weird request (especially given my location), but as a totally new camper we are looking for somewhere to go in Northumberland for a few days.  Would be great if site had some facilities such as EHU as with it being our first time (and as OH is not totally onboard) don't want to be just in a field with nothing.  Want to break him in gently!

Hoping that some of my fellow more experienced campers can suggest somewhere for us to go for our first weekend trip.

If you look at the campsite section at the top of the homepage you can click on Northumberland and look at campsite websites to see what they have and the prices. Tick tents on the left. I visited lots of campsites in Northumberland to have a look. Heading north I like the look of 'Waren' near Bamburgh. Two sites at Wooler look ok and near the town. We stayed at 'Fallowfield Dene' near Hexham last weekend, very nice but no clubhouse if you want that. I did not think much of any other sites west of Newcastle apart from 'Yont the Cleuf'' near Haltwhistle which is ok.

As you are new campers I would suggest one of the Camping and Caravanning Club sites at either Bellingham or Haltwhistle, then you can be assured of a well run site with good facilities and no undue noise.

Many first time campers are put off due to them having chosen a poor site.

Which part of Northumberland would you prefer to go to? As you know it is a big county! Dunstan Steads near Embleton would be a good choice so long as you're not looking for entertainment etc. I think there are 4 C&CC club sites - Beadnell, Dunstan Hill, Haltwhistle and Bellingham. Most sites in Northumberland will be quite busy at this time of year so be sure to ring to book.

When I said I visited lots of campsites (15 of them) and did not think much of some, I did not visit any of the ones mentioned by others above. I will have a drive around in the next few weeks and look at them. I have only recently started camping again so I want to see sites I like so when I can't get my first choice I have alternatives.

Hi

I am off the Bellingham C&CC next week for a few days. Was well impressed when I went to Barnard Castle as my first proper trip so expepcting similar next week. There are plenty of photos on the website and a video tour.

Some of the Northumberland ones seem quite exposed as they are right on the coast which is why I've decided to go into Kielder.

Camping is not for everyone but if you get a good clean site you are halfway to converting them (the other half is good weather and we all know there is nothing we can do about that)

Wherever you choose to go I hope you have a great time, if you are at Bellingham  around the 13th - 17th I would love to say hello.

we recently went to Glororum, Bamburgh very reasonable. Good play areas, facilities a bit dated but clean. Pitches 29 & 30 have fantastic views of the castle.
