Hello all

I would like to take a trip up to Oxford, just me and my DS for a couple of days in August.  I've noticed the C&CC have a site very near but the reviews are a little iffy - mostly noise and security issues.  Can anyone help?  I appreciate level roomy pitches but don't need an EHU nor I am looking for lots of extras on site and we plan to spend time looking around Oxford - loos and showers a must though!  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I know I've left it late to book - again!

I stayed here in April, in a campervan, not a tent. At the time there where road works nearby which were noisy during the day, but not really an issue as we where in the city all day. Also train line nearby and the 7.05 does blow a whistle. A new warden had just taken over and seemed very friendly.

Easy to get into the city, as park and ride just over the road, which is frequent and cheap, 4 pounds return for 2 people.

The site was very convenient and we were not aware of any security issues, it is behind Go Outdoors.  

I would stay again to visit Oxford.

Yes, the tent area is next to the river and there is a dairy (I think) which has refigeration units running, just the other side of the river. When we stayed there where a couple of tents over the other side of the site, but they were using 'winter pitching' so assume they were preserving the grass by the river, motorhomes were on the roadways between the pitches.

We weren't aware of the depot noise but were in a van and use earplugs.

We were also a bit concerned by mixed reviews but our stay was fine, but could be totally different in a tent.

Only other option would be quieter site and drive to the park and ride.

There is Godwins Ice Cream Farm just off the A34 towards Bicester, perfectly ok and reasonably priced, not far away. Peachcroft Farm at Abingdon I think is only for caravans, also ok, both have facilities.

Further out than the C&CC site but might be worth you considering.  We drive to the Park and Ride at Water Eaton and the bus is £2 (return) into Oxford.

Hiya... we stayed here... we drove into Oxford, it was a lovely campsite but I dont know if its too far out for you.

debs, thanks for the link, Greenhill leisure park looks lovely, certainly worth considering.  Could you tell me how long it would take to drive in  Oxford from the site?  Did you use the park and ride?

We too always stay at Lincoln Park, its only a 20 minute enjoyable bus ride into Oxford and the bus stop is right outside the main entrance.

No its not particuarlly cheap, but the location in a lovley village called Standlake is worth the extra cost - 2 nice pubs and lovley walks round nearby lakes, ideal dog walking country.

Thanks everyone.  I had a look at Lincoln Park, looks nice, it is pretty pricey though, especially as it's only for myself and DS, I think it was £24.95/night.  I've booked the Hardwick Park site, almost next door, which seems to have good reveiws, hope it will be OK, looking forwards to getting out as we've only managed one trip this year!
