I cant wait - I am prepared for rain so if it does - so be it -but worried about lake filling up quick. The ccc site tends to get a bit soft i hear. The hound will sleep in the awning as long as we dont have thunder and lightning or fireworks.

The site does not flood due to the lake filling up, it floods when the river behind the site overflows. This can occur after heavy rain regardless of the water level in the lake.

We usually walk all the way around ,the whole walk isn't next to the Lake though ,it takes in famland and some hills ,its a good walk .We usually do it backwards ,starting in Keswick and finishing at the Theater by the Lake so that the more strenuous ( nothing too strenuous though) bits are at he start and the latter part seems to follow the lake and even has its own path .
Is the walk easy to follow? Going back to Keswick in a couple of weeks and quite fancy a walk around the lake - but don't fancy getting lost in a field of cows!
You can pick up a guide for the walk from the visitor information in Keswick ,we managed to follow it and we are not known for for our map reading abilities
If you walk like us ( stopping to admire the view ,have a swim in little alcoves of the lake ,sunbath etc along the way + getting lost and making the odd detour ) then allow about 8 hours.

If I remember rightly it`s about 9 miles around the lake, If the weather turns or anybody feeling they have had enough walking you can cath the ferry from any of the landing points around the lake back to Keswick. We have walked both directions even when we had a young family, took pic-nics and made the day of it great.

Regarding the pub - the dog and gun, can you take your dog inside?
You can take dogs into the Dog & Gun, the Bank Tavern, the Twa Dogs and several other pubs in and around Keswick. Most of the non-food shops also allow dogs.
Off hand I can only think of the lakeside & haverthwaite railway, this allows you to "cruise, ride and visit attractions" by means of windermere ferries and steam trains. So baisically it's a park and ride, but with STYLE

Sarah - No fields of cows but you may find a few sheep on the route.
Its not too far then. Certainly something we could do in half a day then spend the rest relaxing or shopping!
Good to hear there won't be any cows - whilst I think they are lovely creatures finding I once had to cross a field of 30 rather large Aberdeen Angus put me off cross farm land for life lol
