Hi brickiemun,

Not sure how far past Glasgow Balloch is, but its at the bottom end of Loch Lomond, its a nice place, we stayed at Lomond Woods Caravan Park, there where tents there aswell, but I am talking about 3 years ago.  Its near a few pubs and restaurants, shopping complex, mc donalds, worth a look at their website.

if you are camping by tent you could try keltie bridge in callenadr, or if by caravan either keltie bridge or gart caravan part, I hae stayed at gart a few times over the past couple of years and this campsite is great with kids, great playground. also callendar is only 20 min walk from campsite or you can catch a bus, this is only an hour from glasgow.

If you create a Drive Time Zone from Glasgow City Centre for 1 hour, then you take in Tyndrum and Perth to the north, Ayr to the west, the far side of Edinburgh to the east and Moffat to the south.

Within that area there must be many camping sites with the requiremants that you desire.

Auchterarder near Perth springs to mind or for a quieter site but still with lots of play area is Lettershaws near Leadhills.

However a simple search on here (UKCS) should bring you up a reasonable selection.

Strathclyde Country Park we had a walk on this site last week as we where visiting our daughter  there where more tents than caravans on the site it down the road from the mb s fun fair and there a nice walk round the loch

and theres a toby carvery across road from site  its not a bad site

There's a good CCC site on Loch Lomond, at Balmaha, near Drymen. Millarochy Bay, I think it's called (it's in my site reviews if you look at my member data below my name). I've stayed there twice. Just beyond that, about a mile further along that road (actually at the end of the road) is another campsite that looks very good. I've never stayed there, but I've been there with my kids and we've gotten out of the car to enjoy the loch, and it looks good (and has good reviews). CCC also have a site on the west side of Loch Lomond, on the A83 side. Easier to get to, but you'll have a lot of noise from the very busy road.

The caravan site at the bottom of the loch, in Balloch (mentioned upthread) does not accept tents. There is another campsite between Balloch and Drymen that has pretty blah reviews... just a very basic site and if I remember correctly, the reviews were critical of the state of the toilets. You can access the loch from it, but you are not right on it.

Midges will be fierce at any of these, of course.

I adore the shores of Loch Lomond but midgies are my enemy number one I'm afraid Tried holidaying in Fort William once when my son was 7 weeks old. I needed steroid treatment my allergic reaction was so bad
