Which sites would you recommend as the nearest caravanning/camping sites to Center Parcs.  We are after good quality sites with a play area, bar/restaurant and a bit of entertainment in the evenings for the children as my daughter loves the disco type thing.  We tend to do the holiday park with entertainment etc once a year for the children - usually the second week of Whit holidays when its cheaper and quieter.  In the past we've done the more brash holiday parks which the kids adore but us not so much.  Looking now for a better compromise.  I am currently looking at sites like Hoburne Bashley & Clippesby, where else should I consider - location isn't an issue??

We stayed here http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=3947 one Christmas.  Had a good time, a bit quieter than Haven type, great pool, restaurant, bar, and even a bit of entertainment on Christmas night.

We love centreparcs and the closest we have found is River Dart Country Park in Devon due to the fantastic outdoor play areas, walks within the site, lake and activities which were alot cheaper that centreparcs. There is a bar which serves good food but i'm not sure of the entertainment at night as we stayed on the pitch at night. But the atmosphere was also similar and they were planning a new pool for 2012.

Thanks for that Kate, River Dart has caught my eye but I just wonder whether my son who is 4 would get the benefit from their outdoor activities or whether we should wait a year or two what do you think?

I don't know Searles but is that getting away from the Holiday Park or the same.  We went to Vauxhall this year and my kids absolutely adored it - to be fair it was the best UK holiday park we've been to so far and we enjoyed it more than we thought, definitely better than Haven but I'd like to move away a bit from that type of thing if we can without the kids noticing too much!
