Ok, so I may be crazy, but my husband and I are thinking of taking the children camping next weekend. They are 3, 1 and 6 weeks! oh and the dog too.
We live in West Yorkshire, so want to go somewhere local in case we need to admit defeat and come home.
We would ideally like a quiet(ish) site with basic facilities, that is family friendly, so won't have any noisy groups of young 'uns, but equally won't be scowling at us while the kids play out.
Am I asking too much??

August 2013, 14, 15, 16 & 17-Trevornick for two and a half weeks of sea and surf (and ever optimistic -lots of sun). Some other weekends if I can persuade DH
We've just come back from Conder Farm in Dent, we have a 3 and 7 year old and a dog. Very basic site but fantastic scenery and literally a 2 minute walk into Dent village which has a cafe, 2 pubs and a small convenience store. Second time we've been this year and we love it.

Hi, have you tried the Holme Valley camping site just outside Holmfirth. We found it to be a nice small and friendly site with a great family field at the bottom, all the families joined together entertaining the children with a game of rounders, everyone seemed to have taken lots to entertain the children. There are lots of lovely walks, the river runs around the site and nearly everyone has a dog, good facilities although you wont be asked for money for arcades and rides all the time as there is none, but if you want to get back to great camping well worth a visit, we had a great relaxing time there.

I second Holme Valley, the kids will love the ducks. There is a steam to have a dip in but watch the kids around the fishing pond.
If you can`t get in there, try Esholt near Bradford, there`s a basic site there with basic facilities but you can take kids in the cricket club for a game of pool and a pint or 2 for you. A five min walk is St Lenords farm which is great for the kids also there is the Woolpack pub which was the pub in Emerdale before they moved the set.
Hi
Its not West Yorks but I would suggest woodhouse farm at winksley near Ripon. just had 3 nights with all the family. 3 playgrounds aimed at different age groups, loads of grass to play on , handy little shop , even a small bar/restaurant wity lovely food. Will take about 50 mins from Leeds so not far really.
Kram2, how much did you pay a night at Holmfirth please? Was it recently that you went? Have always fancied there for a weekend away.
We tried once when we first camped to find it but got lost in a diversion around the back of the stadium at Huddersfield and gave up and went home. (when I say lost, I mean very lost, pre satnav days )
hi steven the hamster . Yes, we went to Holmfirth at the beginning of July this year, we paid £11.50 per night for 2 people but they did ask how many people were going and if we had pets so dont know if they charge extra. They have 2 family fields one is on a slope but the one at the bottom is flat, they do have a small adult only field that holds just 5 tents and that is the one we stayed on, peaceful is the only word for it and highly recommended. One more thing we did like was on the day of departure there was no time to be off the pitch as long as you went before tea, we had a lie in then a cooked breakfast, took it easy packing away and when we left it was only a couple of hours later than it would have been if 11 o'clock had been the must departure time, we left relaxed, unflustered and determind to go back as many times as we can.

Kram2 you were lucky with the departure time, we have stayed loads of time at Holme Valley and always had to be off our pitch for 12. It must be where you pitched and they had no one coming on that day. We have always stayed at weekends and had a pitch around the fishing pond. We hope to go to Holme Valley in the next few weeks for a chill out.
