Hi all,
Longtime member, getting back into the camp scene, had some great holidays in the last year or so, glad to see it is just as popular as ever.
We are looking for a nice site in Kent, don't mind using the car as we like to see a wide area near to base camp. Would be great if it had a shop in site and maybe a pub within 15-20 minute stroll? Preferably no clubhouse etc
Just the two of us, hookup would also be good for coolbox etc.
Can anyone recommend?
Many thanks
Dave

Hi, Kingsdown Int is situated on top of the cliffs, little draughty when it's blowing a noreaster as it is at the mo. A basic site but easy walk to couple of pubs, not so easy walking back cos is up hill. It may not be that quiet because is very popular with youth groups, in fact, thats what it was set up to cater for. No, I've never stayed there but am familiar as live practically nextdoor..........Mick
We stayed at Kingsdown in May and really enjoyed it. The trick is to find the best pitch - flat, sheltered, and with a sea-view - ask them in reception where to find the best spot. Though I think most of the EHU pitches have sea views. It's amazing being able to see the lights of Calais as you walk back to your tent at night, and there's a nice cliff-top walk you can do, just along from the site (beach is just across a quiet road). Wasn't too windy when we were there, but we opted to camp on flat ground by the hedge. Local village is pretty and has a couple of pubs, plus one which is on the beach.
If you want to try something a bit different try the Hop Farm in Paddock Wood. Lovely place and close to the local town. We had our first camping break there.
pumfretts: not sure about bikes - to access the beach, you go out a gate and down some steps; to go along the cliffs there is another steep set of steps up to the top, and the village is on a hill. But it may be there is a flat route to cycle along the coast in the other direction.
dave: the campsite slopes up away from the beach, so the top of the site is quite high (not really clifftop I suppose), hence the views (and wind). The clifftop walk is up another set of steps.
Park Farm near Bodium Castle is good as long as you don't mind camp-fires and children running around. We stayed with our kids fr a long weekend and it was great. Pub 20 mins walk along the river and Bodium castle not far away.
EHU Available and situated round the edge of the site. Friendly and helpful staff.
