Hi there! We are off to Llanina Caravan Park, Llanarth, (nr New Quay, Wales), weather permitting on 7th August, for 5 days We stayed here a few years ago, but only for 2 nights, so didnt get to explore the area very much although we did get to see the dolphins just off New Quay harbour. Just wondered if anyone out there could recommend a good beach, (fingers crossed for good weather!)and places or activities that maybe of interest. We will be taking our 13 year old daughter and her friend. Thanks in advance.

Llangrannog has a nice beach, but get there early to get a parking spot

Aberystwyth if you're missing big town shopping/cinemas

Aberaeron for some great seafood restaurants and general small harbourside vibe

Oakwood theme park is about an hour away, just the ticket for teenagers.

poppit sands near cardigan is a fantastic sandy long beach with amble near parking and a small shop/cafe.

Llanerchindda gardens is near too.

Devils bridge near aberystwyth is a good walk and has lovely scenery.

Oakwood is good for all ages and they used to do a late night firework display included in the entrance fee.

Penbryn beach is very nice. There is a National Trust carpark but you have to walk down the road to get to the beach (there is a drop off point if you can persuade one of your party to drop you and your stuff off then walk back).

Thanks for all your replies. Forgot about Oakwood theme park, we have been there before when we stayed at Tenby, didn't realise it was close to where we are stopping!! I know the girls will like that. Just hope the weather is good to go to the beaches that have been mentioned. Are there toilets at Poppit sands and Penbryn?

Toilets at Penbryn in the car park, but it's then a 400m walk down to the beach.

Oakwood has gone right downhill lately IMO ,we were there a few weeks ago and lots of rides shut / not in operation or rotational operation.

(We have been going since it opened ! as we used to live in Pembs)

lots of eateries closed and what were open were shockingly bad quality !

We were there for free ( with hubbys work) , i recommend using tesco clubcard deals and not parting with your hard earned "cash" for it !

Heatherton is a much better option and you only pay for the activities you want to take part in  http://www.heatherton.co.uk/Default.aspx

and just opposite is Anna Ryder Richardsons Manor park : http://www.manorhousewildlifepark.co.uk/

Thanks for all replies, this will help a lot!! Also, what supermarkets are in this area? we will have to do a shop when we get there, as things are a bit tight space wise in the car

There's a large tesco in Aberteifi (Cardigan) about 30 mins from Cei Newydd (NewQuay)

There is a very large sandy beach i think called llanina near your caravan site. You should be able to walk there. if not drive to the small car park in llanina woods opposite the llanina church yard and walk across road to 100 yards to the beach. the water goes out exposing rocky pools at low tide and the angle of the beach is shallow so should be good swimming. google it or use OS map.

Steam train ride up to devils bridge is lovely but pricey. roman gold mines -can pan for gold and have tour of mines. borth beach up north a bit is sandy with dunes. there's pony trekking nearby too. if they like walking google geo caching, print off some maps and go looking. there is probably a go ape type place near there too if they like adventure.

We found the beach you mentioned mincepies, thanks. Site owners recommended it too and gave directions, otherwise we would never have found it!! The road directions indicated Cei Bach? Spent a wonderful afternoon there, and when tides out you can walk along beach to New Quay
