Ok, so I've browsed like a wee mad thing on here and on the C&CC website, and have pages full of scribbled notes of campsite info, but I still can't find what I want - can anyone help?

I'm looking for a site that meets some rather specific requirements and I'm having a bit of difficulty juggling them .

1. Probably most importantly, I'll be within about 3 weeks of my due date so would like to stay not more than 30-45 mins away from Leeds General Infirmary!

2. My husband is dropping us off and picking us up a week later, but I'd like a fairly level site where I don't have to haul water uphill :-)  I'd like toilets, so I don't spend too much time emptying the cassette thing, don't mind about showers as I can use the caravan one.

3. I'd really like a playground for my daughter either on site or nearby, BUT I'd much prefer a small quiet site rather than lots of regimented rows of caravans.  We stayed at Greenhills in Bakewell a couple fo weeks ago and it was just too big/busy/close to neighbours/too many big kids bossing the littlies around in the play area/elbow to elbow in the loos.  This seems to be the difficult requirement as most of the sites with play areas I've come across seem to be 100+ pitches, and in the school holidays I expect they'll be mobbed.

4. Ideally there'd be shops for basic supplies within walking distance (or, to be more honest by this point, in waddling distance ;-).  It's not vital though, as I'll have access to a car for part of the week so will be able to get out and about.

My shortlist has Ripley Caravan Park (too big?), Woodhouse Farm (too big?), Brown Bank at Silsden, Riverside Caravan Park at Pateley Bridge (the pitches seem to have that regimented rows thing going on!) ....

Any suggestions, ladies and gentlemen, please?

I am afraid the Leeds area is not well endowed with campsites. There are 2, tucked away on back roads near Bardsey, about 7 miles north of the city. They are Glenfield and Brown Moor Lodge. I believe they are mainly static sites, with some space for tourers. They are both good, with excellent views over the Wharfe valley, but nowhere near bus stops or shops. Near a bus route is Rudding Park, near Harrogate. Driving to Leeds can (just) be done in 45 minutes, the bus to Leeds takes 80 minutes via the scenic route, but to Sainsburys in Harrogate is 5 minutes by bus from the gate. Rudding is expensive, but immaculate.

You could also have a look at Bilton Park Farm Campsite. I use it for my local, it fits all your requirements.

Woodhouse Farm would have been my recommendation and it really doesn't feel too big. The caravan pitches are at the top of the site near the amenities and the really good thing is that there are three separate play areas, including one for littlies right next to the amenities block. The bigger kids seem to hang around on the big area at the bottom of the site or in the games barn. There's also a small shop on site (although this only sells the very basics) and Ripon town centre is only 5 miles away for when you have the car.

How about Otley,  1/2 hour from Leeds, lots of shops and a fantastic new play park by the river.  There are 3 sites. the nearest is at the bottom of the Chevin (dont know the name of it though, then theres Clarion Field but thats uphill but has a pub opposite and up the road. or  another one called i think St helena,s its near the Airport but buses pass down into Otley  J x

We went to Howgill Lodge in June that was lovely.  It's just past Barden near Appletreewick and Burnsall.  So not too far from Leeds.  Howgill although itself is on a hill the pitches are on tiered level rows.  It is a fairly small site and the owners can't do enough for you.  What I liked about it is they had a numerous toilets and shower units dotted about all over the site so there was no queing etc.  They have a small shop on site for essential provisions too.

Thank you all!  I now need to sit down with the AA routeplanner and the site reviews here and do a bit more thinking - so thank you very much for your help.

St Helena's near Otley is a fab site but adults only. I live in Otley but don't know the others.
