I don't find their sites basic at all. Do you mean CSs? If you want a bar and entertainment though, you will not find these at Club sites.

I suppose it depends on your definition of 'basic'. We don't find them basic but then we'd probably pay a premium not to have a bar, restaurant and entertainment! It always amuses me that people are prepared to pay more for extra facilities that are themselves going to take more money off you.

i like the certificated sites at £12 per night with hook up and shower / toilets ! bargain
havent stayed at a club site yet as they seem pretty pricey
we prefer the quieter / smaller ( often scenic / picturesque) sites with little in the way of onsite activity / facility
we then go off to the beach / for walks or whatever, coming back to the site to chill out / relax

We do exactly the same. We hardly ever stay on club sites any more.

I'm no fan of C&CC sites at all, they seem very biassed towards vans. The C&CC sites I've seen don't compare to the private sites in the same area on facilities or price. £39 to be a second class citizen? No thanks.
I can see that some people would benefit from joining, over 55s etc but as a family with a large tent, EHU and dog I haven't found a C&CC site that compares with a private site for the same (or invariably) less money.
------------- Coming soon to a campsite near you, Jake, Mrs Jake, Little legs, Bosdog the Doodle and Olly the Cavachon.
2014:
August: Scarborough, High Yedmandale. Not tenting though, using one of their lovely holiday homes!

have you tried the certificated sites ?
as they are only allowed 5 caravans / campers , there will often be more tents than units

Since joining the C&CC in May I have been looking for CS's with basic facilities (i.e EHU, toilets and sinks) that are within walking distance of places I want to visit and at a reasonable price for a solo camper. So far I have been unsuccessful although I am still looking.
As it happens, in searching, I came across the Ship and Anchor Marina Campsite near Arundel which is a listed site. That means it has been approved but is not actually a C&CC site. It has everything you could want including lovely grassy pitches and a pub right next to the river, and I was charged just £11.50 a night with EHU. I don't know if that is a per person price or for more but to me it was pretty well perfect.
