What do you look for onsite?  You want quiet/uncommercialised or a site with stuff?

My favourite Somerset sites are:

Old Oaks, Glastonbury.  Situated just under the famous tor, rural site.  Adults only, wake up to birdsong, sleep under starry skies.  Spotless facilities.  Lovely onsite shop selling local produce (cheese and cider!!) order freshly made bread and home made cakes!  FAB.

Thorney Lakes, Langport.  Another rural site, set on the flat Somerset levels.  Site is more basic than Old Oaks with a laid back attitude.  Camp in the old apple orchard, pitch where you want, arrive when you want, leave when you want.  No stuffy rules.  Lovely walks around the onsite farm fields and fishing lakes.

Yet to visit, but on my list:  Alpine Grove, Chard.  More of a woodland site but looks our cup of tea.

Check out the reviews on the above.

we have just come back from a week away at diamond farm in brean. it was a lovely quiet site with toilets and a shower block. its close enough to all shops etc without being too close so you have all the noise. we have 3 boys aged 8 10 and 13 and even they enjoyed the peacefullness of it but then were only a quick drive from the beach and lovely walks etc. only cost 150 for all of us peak season!!!

We always go to Northam Farm in brean, cheap and in walking distance of the beach and places to eat.

Thank you so much for your help, loved the look of Old Oaks, sounds absolutely ideal for us but sadly they're full for the weekend. I've put it in my favourites though and will definitely try to get there this year before the end of their season (we intend to use our van throughout the winter). Have emailed thorney lakes and am waiting to hear from them.

You will not be disappointed with Old Oaks.  Best site in the country IMO.  As soon as September comes they will quieten down and you're sure to get a pitch.

Managed to get a cancellation and going to Southfield Farm. A CL site with no loo's or showers but a farm, set in the country with a stream running through it, beautiful countryside and nice walks.
