we were looking to go to Jersey, and like you found a distinct lack of sites, and the few that are available seemed to have a `busy life style`!! not for us.....and also is seemed that it would be cheaper to go to france on the ferry than Jersey!! not sure how that is worked out, but hey ho!! France next year!!

Definitely not the South of France!
I would say it's more on a par with Cornwall & the Scilly Isles. I have family that live there and they do the channel Island's weather with our weather down here (Devon/Cornwall) and it's mostly the same forecast.

If you go to Jersey try and avoid the campsite on the far west side of the Island (!!)- the two on the east side are very good, well run clean etc. Jersey is lovely, we went last year and visited all the campsite to compare them all we also spent time in Guernsey and stayed at Le Fauxants (spelling ?) and really loved Guernsey we also went to Sark (pomme de chien) for a couple of nights/days and Herm for a day. We are planning on going back but missing Jersey out as we preferred the other Islands as they were not as hectic as Jersey.
the weather when we went (june) was warm and dry but not as hot as south of france but slightly warmer than UK.
hope this helps, if you want any more info happy to help
Nina .

We got back from 10 nights in Jersey a few days ago and are desperate to go back - we had an amazing time!
We stayed at Rozel Campsite in the North East and had no complaints at all. I'll submit a full review this weekend but, in short, this is a very well run, clean site with excellent facilities. There were also a lot of Jersey residents staying there and a lady I got friendly with said it was probably the best on the island, There ar loads of kids around so it's lively during the day but all you can hear by 10pm is the sound of the toads. They also have loads of well equipped Cabanon tents to hire if you prefer to fly.
It's probably as warm as Normandy so don't expect South of France temperatures (although it was 27 degrees on the day we pitched) but the island is incredible. Beautiful scenery and each coast is completely different and there is so much to see and do there. We only spent 2 of the 10 days having lazy beach days but still ran out of time before we'd even scratched the surface.
Price-wise, getting there is very reasonable and you get a better deal if you book the ferry through the campsite. It cost us £550 including EHU and the ferry crossings (me and 2 kids) and I'm yet to find a campsite in France that can compete price-wise.
As you can probably tell, I'm a huge fan and will be returning in 2013 (because I've already decided exactly where we're camping next year and can't fit it in!)

Jersey does have its own currency but it's the equivalent of ours and you can use your English money there. You can't use your Jersey money here but if you have any left you can get your bank to change it (or, in my case, use it as another excuse to go back!)
Can't comment on permits I'm afraid as we tent camp rather than caravan.

the article in go caravan says that you can change your money back quite easily before you leave.

The facilities at Rozel are very good. They're a bit old but work perfectly and the staff do a really good job of keeping them clean. There are also two family shower rooms but these were very popular so you might have to queue at busy times. The block at the top of the site is busier as it's nearer most of the pitches so the one at the bottom is slightly nicer and quieter.
There's plenty for kids to do too - a good sized playground at the edge of a big playing field, a games room with air hockey, pool and table tennis, a free crazy golf course, a swimming pool and paddling pool and a TV room (although most kids seemed too busy for TV!).
I didn't take many pictures of the site itself as we were off exploring the island during the day. Here's one of my son modelling the swimming pool though:

p.s. you don't need a permit unless you're in a caravan, campervan, etc.
