Can anyone recommend a good site for a weeks holiday in Scotland in October - we would like something situated next to water - loch or beach within walking distance to a town, and with plenty around to do for days out. Children are 8 and 6.  Not looking to go to far from home perhaps 2hr radius from Kinross.

Thanks in advance for any help

Trish

Have you looked at something around Callander area? I know the town itself isn't on water but there are plenty of nice walks around there...

What about St Andrews? There's a site overlooking the beach on the way out. (stayed about 20yrs ago!!). There's a small sea-life centre, great ice-cream shop and there's bound to be one of those pottery painting places nearby (there always is!). Close enough to Dundee to visit sensation, great swimming pool and the discovery ship. Cupar is a short drive away to take them to Cairnie Fruit Farm which has an amazing tea room/cafe and if the weather isn't too wet, a fantastic outdoor playarea, you do have to pay, but you can easily spend most of the day there.
Hope you find something, we're still looking for us.
Nicky

And the Deer Centre near Cupar (of which the wild cats are the best, or so we thought), takes Tesco vouchers too. We stayed at Newton of Nydie CS which I have to say is not the best we have stayed at but was ok for us. Good area to get around and see a lot.

Thanks for your suggestions might be a bit too close to home, we done alot  of that over the summer hols and Granny and Grandad stay in Dundee so that was all covered too.

Looking at Pitlochry/Aviemore area - anyone got any good advice on sites in these places.

Thanks

Trish

Brighouse Bay near Kirkcudbright is a lovely site
It's right on a bay at the end of the road so no passing traffic at all BUT it's not a short walk to tow - about 5 milesish away.
We found lots to do around and about - Wild Life Park, Gem and Rock Museum, lots of walks and beaches/towns to see, Pottery where the children did their own pots. There's golf on site and a swimming pool (not huge) in the (golf) club house as well as bowling (def nothing like a Haven or the like type of place)

There is a very good site shop that is very well stocked.

Just read the Pitlochry/Aviemore area bit - sorry it's a long way south of there

It's expensive but Glenmore is right on Loch Morlich, I haven't stayed there since Forest Holidays took over but there is so much to do on the loch and of course Aviemore's not far away. If you're C&CC members, it's slightly less expensive!

If you intend going to the Pitlochry area I advise NOT to go to 'Tummel Valley' Holiday Park which is owned by Parkdean. We went in a static for a week 10 years ago when it was owned by Havens and although the area itself was fantastic I didn't rate the site much at all. I advise to read the reviews but having read them myself recently from people with touring vans, it doesn't sound like much has changed.

hiya,
Blair castle is a good site at Blair athol.good park/games room.
not far from pitlochry, also an adventure play area just up the road?(haven't been but saw the sign for it on motorway).
plenty to do in perth if weathers not good.swimming pool, ice rink ect.also Aviemore is about an hours drive at the most.
the site is not on a loch but next to a river which my kids loved.
ps nice toilets as well

Absolutely Aviemore, either Rothiemurchus or Glenmore. LOADS to do, fab cycle tracks, lochs, Treezone, loved it, went twice this year.
