Hi,
We go boxing day until the day after new year. If you want to go make sure you book now as it's become really popular. Years ago you could always get a pitch but nowadays sites become full. What doesn't help is that they usually close certain pitches.
The weather can be surprising. Last year we had to cancel our plans but that was the first time or should I say the CC cancelled our plans. Usually it's cold but not too bad, depending where your going that is. The Cotswolds are a good choice, mainly because there's a good choice of sites and the roads are good if the weather turns bad.

We have been out at 'New Year' twice and even though it's only for 3 or 4 nights it's amazing how much gas you get through trying to keep warm. With the rising cost of LPG it's not cost effective so I would probably do it again but only if we were on electric hook up.

I've been away at Christmas once and it was great - cold and frosty and very quiet.
I have been away for New Year for several years, though, and a couple of times we went to the Caravan Club site at Newark where they have a party in a huge barn.
There are about 6 of us off to Derbyshire this year but we're staying by a pub so we've got a retreat!
I agree about the hookup, though, it can get very cold, but it's worth it.

We tend to get away the day after boxing day until the new year, Its a lovely way to spend some time chilling after christmas and away from the house.
Not sure where we are going yet but will hopefully book somewhere soon.

No it would be completely sane.
We do it, usually go on Boxing day, but you have to book early.
We always book a caravan club site or one that has hard standings and warm facilities.
Over the years we have had various weather conditions, from
deep and crisp and even at Castleton to wind and blizzards at Rivendale to walking on the beach in the sunshine in Cromer. You never can tell.

Ditto, we have been away in the van for the last 6 years. We are not mad enough to cook christmas dinner in the van, and have always booked somewhere and it's always exceeded expectations.
We used to head up to the lakes a lot but it became a bit of a dissapointment over recent years with the amount of people "holidaying at home" during the tough economy, their attitudes ruin it for the rest of us.
This year thou the christmas break is a short calendar one because of the way the days fall.

Tried it a couple of years ago and went to Sandringham CC site in the snow, would do it again given the chance. We arrived on the 23rd and took everything we needed for Christmas with us. Christmas Eve the wardens did drinks & nibbles at reception, Christmas morning we walked up to Sandringham to see the royals at church before opening pressies and cooking full dinner. Loved it!!

Year before last we went to CC Blackpool site and had a fab time but got stuck in the first snowfall of the year gong home terrifying!.
Last year booked CC site in the Cotswolds followed by Crystal Palace(having Christmas with Son who was living in London) both were cancelled by the CC club due to atrocious weather conditions. Had to have an emergency change of plan and stayed in a hotel.
Put me off even booking this year
