Is this feasible? Having loved the summer camping trip to France I really don't want to down tools until 2012! Want to go to Lake District and having had a look at hotels (and extortionately priced lodges) I'm wondering what I would need to do to manage a couple of nights with the kids in the tent - any tips or comments will be helpful - main worry is the cold? Thanks

what about a haven site? they do not suit all but out of school hols are usually pretty cheap, even compared to basic campsites and if cold/wet then there are indoor activities that won't cost you any extra ( if the kids stay away from the slot machines lol) If you are thinking of the cumbria have a look at sites like Stanwix park for the same reason as Haven but a bit smaller.
Mind you just realised you have a teenager and they may find Haven too young for them so parks like Stanwix may be better. don't worry about regiments spaces at this time of year
Some complaints about the site but many weather related or linked to small kids. At this time of year it wont be full and for teenagers the pool and maybe gym would be good if bad weather

Camping in October - main thing is to make sure you have a good quality sleeping bags and a tent that definately will not leak. Go for it.
Re Lakeland, Cumbria, we went with our tourer a few years back in October half term and the camping/caravan area was just a big patch of muddy pitches even though there had not been a lot of rain.
Make sure you choose somewhere with good drainage.

Have a great time wherever you go.
They must have sorted it because when we went last year we had no problem with the pitches, and we had 3 days of rain. This last couple of years Haven have been doing alot with their camping facilities.

kitcat, not sure if you are still thinking about this, but if you are interested, Haven have some good deals on at the moment. We have just booked the Blue Dolphin at Filey for 4 nights, grass pitch with electric and fun passes etc, for £20! There are other deals at other sites too I think!
