hi there

Can anyone point me in the right direction to some of best campsites(tents) in the gower peninsular?...Have looked at some of the reviews at hillend, pitton cross and three cliffs but cant seem to make my mind up.We do enjoy walking and would be great to have a small town or village within about an hours walk and have a few beers and a bite to eat ....

Heres hoping Richard...

Hill End is full of teenagers on the beer for the weekend.

Three Cliffs is nice but thetent area has a SERIOUS slope to it (look on youtube)

Bank Farm is quite good and close to Port Eynon.

Carregllwyd is in Port eynon and right on the beach

Pitton Cross is nice but miles from anywhere

I love Pembrey and would choose it over The Gower any time.  But it's not on The Gower and it's a Caravan Club site that does not take tents.

bum didnt see that you had a tent...sorry
however pembrey country park are thinking of reviewing there camping policy currently they only allow you to book as groups of 5 or more but they are looking at allowing single pitches
very basic facilities though on their site just a couple of loos and taps
we go every year on this bit of pembrey as a big group and have THE best time so much to do and see

oh and i thought it was on the gower but then im from nottingham and get giddy by the smell of the sea and know as much about geography as jade goody

I stayed at Pitton Cross (which I was quite happy with after visiting others) and visited quite a few sites while there but tbh was a bit disappointed

3 cliffs was totally ruled out, loved the location but the tent field is very sloped, prob about 2 decent pitches and they are obviously taken (and i found the warden there very rude)

I spent most of my childhood at the gower but it seems to have declined in that a lot of it looks a bit tatty and the campsite prices were overinflated

Kennexstone - handy for everything and level! everywhere else seems to be at 45 degrees or on a clifftop and hence exposed to gales. The reviews on this website are a true refelection.

we stayed at Oxwich Bay campsite ( when we had a tent!)

and wasn't that keen due to the "free for all" set up ( I prefer separate pitches ) and a group of about 6 tents and all the kids / cars / gear etc that goes with it surrounding us !

nice enough site though with outdoor pool for summer

Carreglwyd Camping & Caravan Park is right on the beach at port eynon, there is alovely chip shop across the road and a pub not too far away.

P.s  Why do you all call it "The Gower"?   Spent most of my years living there and afaik it's just Gower, or "The gower peninsular" ;-)

You are right of course, but there are many locals who get it wrong, so it's a little unfair to pull up visitors on the mistake.

My thoughts exactly... The Gower peninsula to "The Gower?"

Surely that is not a reason to pick up a comment on?? ha ha ha

Sorry, I wasn't intentionally pulling anyone up on it - I just wondered - In fact I've had people correct me telling me it's called "The Gower".
