Not 'proper camping' I know, but thought some of you might like to see inside a camping Wigwam, as a way of extending the camping season, or possibly tempting non-camping friends or family to join you.

We stayed at Woodclose in Cumbria, they have 7 wigwams in one area of their site (the rest mainly statics and tourers). The wigwams are triangular shaped huts with a front door and two windows.

They are well insulated and have heating, lighting and electric points. Although it was quite mild for October, the first night we were there was very windy, the wigwam creaked a bit in the wind, but we kept very snug without needing the heating on. We even had to open the window a crack as we were getting too warm!

There is bench seating and a small table at the back half of the wigwam, which converts to a platform bed to sleep up to four. The other end has a further bench/bed on one side, and shelving, fridge and kettle opposite.

At Woodclose, each wigwam has it's own picnic bench outside and space for a firepit (which you can borrow onsite) or barbeque. You can't cook inside the wigwam, so you need to bring your own stove, and cook outside as you would when camping proper.

For us (two adults, one child and one 'infant') it cost £35 per night, this is the out of season price, but this site seems quite cheap compared to some of the others I've looked at.

Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!

looks really cosy, sounds like a good option for out of season camping
