Having purchased our first touring van earlier this year (currently sited in North Devon), we are looking to relocate it on a seasonal pitch from its current site a little nearer to home, thereby making weekend visits a little more feasible. We live by Jtn 2 of the M5.

We have scoured websites, visited numerous sites and asked lots of questions but seem to struggle to find something that fits our bill. Location isn't the end of the world, neither are facilities on site but we are looking for somewhere truly dog friendly (ideally well behaved dogs allowed off the lead), good dog walking and a nearby dog friendly pub. We thought we had found the perfect place in Blue Anchor Bay (beach, dog friendly farm, two truly dog friendly pubs but we've had no luck with seasonal pitches there).

We've come to the conclusion that this kind of site will probably not be a C&CC run club but maybe a small, privately owned site. Can anybody recommend anywhere that might be of interest?

Keep trying, you might have to compromise a bit by having the dogs on lead with a dog walking zone where you could have the dog off lead.

Does your dog/dogs walk to heel? Then I would have thought it would be barely noticed if there's a lead on the dog or not. I know when my dog walks to heel it's as if the lead is there anyway (until she gets distracted - typical springer, loopy and mad). So most dog friendly sites would be suitable if that's the case and you don't need to ask the question about dogs off lead.

I guess that's why I like the smalllclub sites, I would not want to be at a place where the dogs are not under control.

We always look for animal friendly places, however it is expected that dogs are on a lead, properly controlled, as even the best behaved dog in an area it doesn't know with so many smells / campers - I'm not saying campers smell BTW

Edited to add good luck with your search, but I wonder if there may need to be a comprimise on the lead.

You may find more luck looking at small commercial sites, there is a spacialist listing on this site here, but dogs off lead on main part of site as opposed to dedicated dog walking area will be a problem.

Yes guys - I think you're right, I need to compromise. The dog on the lead is the obvious one - and I'm honestly happy to do this as long as when site owners advertise a dog walking area they don't actually mean a 10m2 patch of grass where you can basically take the dog to use the toilet.

We love this one

there's a large dog exercise field and miles of walks too.
stones throw away from dog friendly beach and the pub on the doorstep has a large outdoor seating area ideal for drinkers/diners with dogs.

I think they might have a waiting list for their seasonal pitches though.

Try THIS one, it is in Wareham Forest so plenty of walking for the dogs right on your doorstep and the Silent Woman pub is a short walk away and allows dogs in the bar and gardens.

We love Norden Farm near Corfe in Dorset - on a working farm, in a valley, right on a SSSI and woodlands, 20 mins easy amble to the best dog-friendly pub in the world (The Greyhound on Corfe).

They do seasonal pitches, have great facilities and are fairly relaxed about dogs and leads (there are off-lead farm dogs and cats though). So long as your dog is under close control it is a short skip to the campsite 'dog walk' which is actually the Purbeck Way - you can walk for miles!

Yes, I'd have suggested Norden Farm but didn't realise they had seasonal pitches.

A very dog friendly site - even has a "Pooch Parlour"!

you may be right there about a waiting list, and as from yesterday!! it may have gotten one or two spaces longer? due to new development near the main entrance [opposite reception where the phone box WAS!!]two or three seasonals have now been lost

I think at Norden Farm you probably have to ask, as there are quite a few vans there all year/season but they don't advertise as such.

You can live there as well and help herd the cows, if you like! It's my retirement plan...
