I went there about 4 years ago, I too didn't want to just turn up since we had a 5 hour drive to get there, but they would not accept bookings.

It's a big site and plenty of room but be careful about where you pitch, it was a bit of a hit and a miss what pitches did not flood, parts of it are not well drained site. As long as you pick high ground you should be okay. It was just our very bad luck that it was the heaviest rain for a long time and was our first time camping. It didn't put me off though but my husband hasn't been back!
