Well, there's been a lot of reading and research. We have decided that the site we will probably go to in the summer half term is Leekworth in Middleton-in-Teeside.
Hadrian's Wall and/or Herding Hill Farm will probably be visited later this year or next and High Yedmandale is likely to be visited in the near future as well.
Many thanks to all of you that took the time to make suggestions.
Happy camping.

Leekworth looks very nice, any idea what pitch fees are? No mention on their website but they might be waiting until showers are instaled.
Yes, I'd noticed that. I've emailed them asking for tariffs and I'll mention that others are asking.

Thanks Lurcher Mac and Former scout, I remember seeing the site last year and thinking it was nice but no showers put me off perhaps this year we might get there.
Lucher Mac do you know if the pubs in the village are dog and child friendly, if so do they do food ? If not are there any decent take aways ?
Hi Travel Bug, there are a couple of pubs in the village and around 4 hotels that have restaurants/ bars and all serve food. Don't be put off by them being hotels, the locals uses them as pubs. All are dog/child friendly, mainly due to the hikers that use Middleham as a base. There are quite alot of cafes as well and most have outside seating areas where dogs are allowed. There are also a couple of pubs on the outskirts of the village that are also dog/child friendly but I haven't actually been in either of these pubs. There is a great chippy in the village but it may shut around 8.30 on Saturday nights. Hope this helps

Thanks for the prices Former scout, they seem reasonable.
Lurcher Mac it sounds a brilliant base for dog owners and thank you for the detailed reply. Its always a bonus if you can find a nice pub thats dog friendly and there seems to be plenty to chose from.
