Were about to book a stay for July in North Devon and have narrowed it down to two sites, these are : Whitehill Country Park and Cofton Country Holiday Park.
Has anyone any experience with either, or both of these sites? Any pitch recommendations for tents? We have chosen these sites as they both have a pool for the kids.

Hi
Don't want to sound rude but neither of these sites are in North Devon, if that is the area you are wanting to go to.
Have been to Whitehill many times although not recently and really like it.
Two weekends ago had a walk around Cofton and have to say would stay there as well.
It depends what you like to do.
Where Whitehill is situated the roads are narrow and you cannot really walk or cycle anywhere, IMO.
Whereas Cofton would be better situated for this.
Don't know why the traffic is like around Cofton in July but can be really busy around Paignton.
It I were to choose between the two now, I would pick Cofton as I feel it is better situated that Whitehill.
You would still have easy access to the same area eg Torquay, Brixam, Dartmouth as you would from Whitehill.

We have been to Cofton many times and is a very good site, the pool is good and they are building an indoor one now but i would imagine this will be charged extra.

Some of the toilet blocks were a bit old but these have been replaced with new ones

There are some lovely walks as they own the woodlands above the site.

There are a few different types of pitching areas with some on a terraced hillside some open field and others in and around trees,it all depends how busy it is when you get there as you are normally taken to your pitch.

The have a good shop on site and there is a new Sainsburys just down the road.

We are not going this year as their prices especially for dogs is now too much at peak times but we will miss going as the site does have a good holiday feel to it.

I realise I had put North Devon in my original post but I meant South!! It was just a typo.
I know there are reviews of both sites available but was curious to see if there was anyone who actually had knowledge of both to compare. Thanks for the replies, we are going to go for Cofton.

Hi, we went to Whitehill the first week of June last year.  We stayed on pitch 61 (in a tent).  This was oposite the play park so could see the kids.  The park was next to one of the shower/toilet/washing up blocks, so was close by but not too close to be noisy.  This block, although very clean, was older than the newer block which was situated on the next camping field.  We had a looksy just to see and it was lovely.

The pool was lovely and we had fantastic weather so kids used it alot.  There is a lovely walk through the woods from the site, which we did.  There is a more grown up wooden play park on the furtherest field, which my two enjoyed.

There is a craft room, which kids can do pottery (extra cost) painting, pictures (free) and other things I think.  This would be really handy if bad weather.

There is a take away/cafe, selling fish and chips, etc.  We thought it was good and not too expensive.  The shop, although small, was really good.  It sold loads of things including camping essentials.

The reception staff were friendly and helpful.  We bought a two hour card for WIFI for our daughter (facebook!!), but can't remember how much it was.  A godsend at the time!

The bar was expensive, but the little disco was great for the kids.

On the whole, we really enjoyed this site and would go back, but like the look of Cofton as well (but haven't been).

Hope this helps and that you have a lovely holiday wherever you decide to go.

Ali

Thanks Alis, a lovely little review. I guess both sites look excellent and as we havent been to either before, I'm sure we won't be disappointed! Our biggest fear is being packed in on too small a pitch as we visited a site last year where the site packed us all like sardines. To add to this the campervan next to us were still drinking and shouting at 3 in the morning, the other side snored louder than a jumbo jet and the tent to the rear let their dog out to s**t right next to our tent doorway without cleaning it up!!
This was nearly enough to put my good lady off camping for good so I am hoping this break can turn her around again!!

Hi there, we have booked for Cofton for 2nd week in july after speaking to loads of carravaners who highly rate Cofton. The site facilities, staff have all had great things said! just hoping that the new complex is finished for the kids.

We go to cofton several times a year and although we dont use some of the facilities  they are all good ,the shop is well stocked and reasonably priced as is the pub drinks and meals and the takeaway is also good value, toilet and shower blocks are clean and free  all the staff are friendly and helpful. There is a camping orchard exclusively for tents in front of the takeaway/laundry toilet and shower building but you can pitch anywhere and the field behind/to the right of reception seems to be very popular with tents

I only went to Cofton once over the New Year weekend in 2009, and the site was well-kept and the toilet and shower blocks were kept clean regularly.

It had plenty to offer even at low season, being very close to Dawlish Warren beaches, and a good size field by the church for dog walking.

I can imagine it being a very nice site in warmer weather, and is on my list of sites to return on day.
