I can definitely recommend the National Showcaves- I can't believe they are not more well known because they are the best I have evr been to. A great day out if it rains! Elan Valley is a good place to visit, kids usually impressed by the Red Kite Centre. My daughter has enjoyed the Rare Breeds farm - owls, pygmy goats, donkeys etc. Anyone going at August Bank Holiday should go to the Victorian Festival in Llandridnodd Wells - especially the last day. We went to these over several visits - most of the time it is around the site, a picnic on the hills etc. Let's hope for good weather!

And any more we can fit in!
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
Wow another great thread. I have booked to go to Fforest Fields 6-9 June, although I am now seriously considering extending this booking by a night. I had just planned to visit the Elan Valley and spend the rest of the time relaxing on site but after seeing the Show Caves website I am so tempted to go there as well. I think I am going to have to print this thread off before I go.

You won't be sorry if you do!

Some great info on this site - we have been thinking about spending a week at Fforest Fields in the summer. We will be in our motorhome, just 2 adults and a dog. The thing is, once we've parked up, we don't like to move the van again and I'm just wondering if this site is a little in the middle of nowhere? We don't mind walking and also often take the bikes too (but are not that fit!!)
Would you guys recommend this site if you are without transport?
I suppose if you take plenty of supplies with you and just want a relaxing week you'll be fine. My DH likes to fish and would happily stay on site doing that every day while I sit by the tent and read and DS is in the lake, swimming or on a kayak. You can walk into Hundred House the nearest village, not done this personally so don't really know what's there, although I know there is a pub. We used Builth Wells for all our food supplies which is about 6 miles away. There are lots of lovely walks direct from the site

The beach at Ynyslas is beautiful (just a little further on from Borth). If I remember it takes about 45 minutes to get there for FF but is beautiful.
Not much to do when you get there, just an ice cream van and a small visitor centre, but we took a picnic, few bottles of beer our camping chairs and we stayed all day. Kids loved it, dogs loved it. A bit of a trek over the dunes, but worth it when you get there.
I would keep an eye on the weather and if it forecasts a good day - thats the place to head.
We'll see you all on the Jubliee week by the looks! Can't wait.
