Will a CL without facilities (apart from EHU) do? there is Wyndham Farm (I think it's called, don't have the book with me), not far from the A303, just into Dorset near Gillingham, I added a review.

We've used this http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=4113 site plenty of times as a one night stop over, either on the way to Dorset or home or both, it's on J4 of the M3 which means we can get the M25 out of the way, stop off and then resume the rest of the jurney the next morning after a good breakfast in their cafe.
We liked it so much but was never getting to see anything of the area so we had a short break there a couple of years ago.

Needs to time it right though as one can sit in traffic for ages at the Amesbury roundabout!
