We are thinking of going to Somerset this summer. Been browsing on camp site search and have seen a few that I quite fancy and read the reviews on them which all seem quite reasonable. However my main concern is road noise when choosing a park as I am a terrible sleeper and like sites that are really peaceful. The ones I have been looking at are Burrowhayes Caravan Park, Porlock, Somerset, Lowtrow Cross Caravan Park, Wiveliscombe, Exmoor and Halse Farm Caravan Park, Winsford, Exmoor. Has anyone been to any of these parks and if so can you remember how near the road they are and if the road is busy or not? Also are there any other sites in the area for consideration. We wont have any kids with us so adult only sites are fine. Thanks in advance.
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
Burrowhayes is next to a road but it's more of a country lane rather than a road. You'll probably get traffic during the day but I would say hardly anything during the night.
We stayed at Lowtrow Cross last year - tiny site, very few pitches and in the middle of nowhere - next to a road but it's a country road so very quiet by night - so very peaceful. Right next door to a pub but we didn't go in the pub.
All of the locations you have chosen are rural, so I would say the same for all of them to be honest - traffic by day but minimal by night. Why not take a look on google maps/earth and see the nearest road to the parks.
I agree about Old Oaks, we visit several times a year it's very quiet there. Top site!

We go to Burrowhayes every year and can't recommend highly enough. It is close to a road but it has hardly any traffic on it, never noticed it.
If you want a well run camp site with direct walks to Exmoor and Horner Woods and a short drive from all manner of places then this is the one for you. It is owned by the national trust and the facilities are first class.
2 more you may want to add to your "possibles" list are:
Gamlins Farm, Greenham Nr Wellington - rural, countryside site. Basic site on farm but has really good reviews and is a very good price situated to the Somerset/Devon border so ideal if you're looking at exploring South West Somerset and if you wanted to pop into Devon as the caravan site is about 15 minutes from the M5
Thorney Lakes, Nr Langport - again rural & set within the Somerset Levels. Laid back quiet site, fishing lakes on site and endless walks around the farmer's fields if you have dogs. Closest villages/towns - Langport & Martock.
Thanks everyone for your comments. I have saved he suggested sites into my virtual brochure and will have a good look at them all and then decide. I think I like browsing and researching areas and sites almost as much as going away!!
Would like to suggest Batcombe Vale, beautiful site nestled in a very quiet valley - small and basic facilities and really lovely people running it. Fishing lakes plus a lake with massive ornamental carp that you can row on - free boats. You pay for fishing.
