Sitting here at Ferry Meadows Caravan Club site amongst the empty pitches........Easter weekend and the wardens panicked on Wednesday when it rained and cancelled 180 bookings due to flooding.....not a puddle in sight. What is going on ???????

I thought the site had already flooded when they cancelled? I doubt the warden would have been able to make that decision on his own, they must have lost a fortune. It must have spoiled a lot of weekends and of course very little option to book elsewhwere.
And it's still happening this week. Lots cancelled......and whilst we have been here empty hardstanding pitches some nights.
Several reasons given......they need to save them for the folk on grass pitches in case needed.........hello there is hardly anyone on any grass pitches.
Two of our party been cancelled....one of our party only wanted a one night stay, but no help at all from warden (deputy) even though that night there was a pitch empty. Also no help from the office.
Wish they would bring back the normal wardens.

I don't know if that would be the case this week ! A couple of days ago a couple were leaving a day earlier than there full booking. The gentleman explained to us that they had booked the extra night in case they decided to travel at tea time rather than be off by 12.
They decided to go at 9am and hadn't expected or asked for a refund on the night that was paid for. As our Son wanted to come and had been cancelled we suggested to the deputy warden that there was indeed now an empty pitch that night, and that we would now go and book it and my Son would be waiting at the office at 12. Whilst we knew we couldn't either reserve or guarantee he would get the exact empty pitch near to us, at least we knew there was a empty pitch.
We were told no further bookings were being taken this week......I still can't understand it. As we knew there was an empty pitch on site. What made it worse was the attitude of this guy. And to be honest even asking at the office was no use.
In this financial climate it is hard to understand why money is being turned away.

Ps all we have been told the whole week by Deputy Wardens and the office is 'it's the Wardens decision'. They also seem to be very set on what the forecasts say.......even though last weekends forecast was completely wrong, Saturday proved to be a lovely hot day.
I know since then though there have been heavy down pours...but it's going to be a very odd summer down here if every time rain is mentioned they close the grass side......some sites couldn't operate at all if they all adopted this policy.
The other thing one of the wardens has said is they have to get the grass ready for the 6 weeks holidays.........the rest of the weeks don't matter then it seems.

Its similar here at West Ayton, all grass pitches are closed, and now all of one lower section field of the hardstandings too. Theres very few caravans or motorhomes left on site, and what is there, have been on site for a fair while. we see a few Motorhomes manouvering around the pitches near the office, but nothing much else apart from departures.
It has been one of the wettest fortnights we have ever had on a site, its rained every day and most nights, with very few dry spells long enough to do the outside chores without getting wet!

Just spoken to the wardens at Top Lodge and they have had to close the site too this weekend, so different to this time last year, when the weather was glorious.
