swanage is a pretty old fashioned small seaside resort in a good way. We love it and the area. We go every year. Studland beach nearby is THE best beach in the country imho. We like Norden Farm camp site at Corfe Castle. Itself a lovely village.

Totally agree with Steve, but I don't think there are many sites in the area with "entertainment" on my preferred side of Poole Harbour, anyway (not been to any on the Poole side).

As well as Norden Farm, have a look at Tom's Field, for example, or indeed any* of the Purbeck sites I've reviewed in my profile.

*not all take caravans, though.

I love Swanage. It's slightly old fashioned and all the better for it. Never camped at Swanage itself though.

We like Tom's Field at Worth Matravers (fabulous pub  in village) and the C&CC site at Corfe Castle (lots of great pubs in village, a pleasant stroll away along a public footpath. Neither has entertainment laid on though. Mind you,our idea of entertainment is sitting in the garden of the Scott Arms taking in the view. Wareham has a lovely little cinema (and some nice pubs).

There are lots of great beaches in the area - lovely sandy bathing beaches at Studland and fossil hunting at Kimmeridge.

Sorry - didn't add that there is no entertainment at Norden Farm. I don't believe there is a site near swanage with entertainment. It's not that sort of place. All the better for it in my view but of course each to their own.

You could try regatta week when it will be a lot livelier but you will have to be quick to get in somewhere.

I'm from Poole, originally from the North East and i have to say there is nowhere better than Poole. Poole quay on a summers day is brilliant.Lot's of people , boat trips around the harbour, people fishing and kids crabbing.Pubs and restaurants that do food or kiosks that do ice cream ,chips etc.

I've been thinking really hard for a site that does entertainment and apart from Rockley i think Sandford might be it.
We've been and had a great time. It's ideally located for both Poole and Swanage, not forgetting Bournemouth and Weymouth.

We took out grandson there a couple of years ago. We were lucky in that it was wall to wall sunshine. Indoor and outdoor pool.
We had a pitch for our tent with EHU on the field right at the back. Toilets etc were great. The only bit of a down side was it's quite a walk to the pools , club house etc. But, as it's at the far end of the site hardly any cars so our grandson could play on his bike safely.

Last year our daughter took her young sons.
They were given a pitch in the centre of the park. The pitch seemed a lot smaller than the one we'd had at the back and because it's a large park there seemed to be a never ending flow of cars leaving and returning to their pitch which meant she had to keep a really close eye on the boys .

I'd say , definitely give Sandford a go but ask for a pitch on the back field , much better , even if it is a longer walk to the entertainment.

Hope this helps, Wendy
