Our son, who's now 15 had asked if we could go back to Trevornick for our main 2 week holiday next year, having priced it up, and being quite reluctant to pay £5.60 per night for the dog we decided to look at other places and via this forum discovered Monkey Tree. We've read the reviews but there don't seem to be that many recent reviews for tents so just wondered if anyone has been recently and can comment? We've been to Trevornick three times since 2004 and don't generally go for the all singing all dancing types, but as i say, this is our son's choice and he'd like to go somewhere where he can go to the pool and stuff, DH likes to go fishing so Monkey Tree seems good for him too, but hopefully it will still be relaxing enough for me too!

We went to Trevornick 3 times before deciding it was just too expensive.  We then went to Monkey tree and thought it was great.

Our boys don't come with us anymore, but if they did, and we were heading that way Monkey Tree would be our choice  based on cost.

Hendra is really good and you would save a few quid on the trevornick prices. We were there for 2 weeks last august and really enjoyed it. We also called in at trevornick one day to have a look around and booked our pitch there and then for this years 2 weeks holiday. A little expensive i know but it does look really good for the kids. Might just call in at monkey tree while we are down there and have a look around as i'm sure we'll be in newquay again next year as we love the area so much

Thanks for the responses, we too really like Trevornick but I flatly refuse to pay £63 a night, it's just got ridiculous, we could probably get a B & B for less than that!!

Did look at Hendra, and passed it often when we've been down there, but don't like the fact it is close to the main road.

We stayed in a static at Monkey Tree a couple of years ago at halloween as they had a ridiculously cheap offer on. Most of the site facilities like the pool were shut as it was the last week of their season and by the end of october the weather is a bit pants, although we did get a few nice days. We were off site most of the time and I didnt particularly pay attention to the tent section, the one thing I do remember though was that the tent fields were very busy and looked a bit cramped for my personal taste but it wasnt quite as bad having guy lines crossing over like you get at some holiday parks.

It did look like it would be bopping in the summer with plenty to keep the kids occupied and all the staff were really friendly and helpful.

Newperran is close by,( & in fact has a better outlook,) and always gets good reviews. We've never actually stayed there but have popped in a couple of times, when we are staying at the Treamble Valley Caravan Club site nearby, and it always looks very pleasant. If our lads were still holidaying with us it's the sort of place we would take them. Look here for details

Hi

Monkeytree can get very busy and a bit loud! We stayed there once. The fishing lakes are very small.

If your child is after fishing I would recommend Perran Springs, they are about 2 miles from Perranporth beach. Very nice family run site with very clean facilities - and GREAT fishing!! Probably one of the best camping/fishing sites in Cornwall (i have been to many)...

We are going to Trevella Park near Newquay in August, I have boys of 14, 12 & 8. Has a pool, crazy golf, games room etc & fishing lakes.

I really hope it's OK as it's not one of the ones talked about a lot on here. The reviews seem good though & we got a good discount booking in January!

We have high expectations after a fab hol in Cornwall on the other coast at St Austell last year at the fab Carlyon Bay.

If I remember rightly, the camping area at Hendra is quite some way from the road, so I dont think road noise would be an issue.

Dear Tracey D

I don't know if you have booked anything yet, if you haven't a few comments from someone who lives in Cornwall and goes on rallies most weekends to different sites with a local camping group on

I love Trevornick, but am not going this year as too expensive even at rally rates, and £63.00 is appalling.

Monkey Tree used to be very popular with locals and visitors, however, following a management change many locals no longer stay there, many feel it is nowhere near as good as used to be. I've not been there for almost a year but it does get very packed in school holidays and I agree it can be noisy.

Newperran, read the terms and conditions very carefully, it's not the most child teenager friendly site, it has a great pool, however, its often freezing but you may be lucky in the school holidays.

Trevella is very popular, and it has fishing lakes I don't go there but only because our unit is too big otherwise I would definitely go. I know Trevella takes dogs too as various friends take theirs.

Carlyon Bay one of my favorites, been there twice in the last month it's a great site, great showers and pool, the takeaway does nice food and it has a shop, and they have some entertainment high season it's not that far from the beach. if your son likes Trevornick he may it a little quiet.

Hendra, another popular site, been there twice since Easter lots to do, some pitches do border the road, but others are some way from the road, read the site plan and pick your pitch, no fishing lake on site.

Tregoad Park Looe has 3 lakes it's a popular site but I've not been there.

There are lots of sites with fishing close by, the Parkdean sites have lots to do, Holywell bay is very close to Trevornick, Parkdean also has Mullion Holiday Park and Newquay Holiday Park, not sure of the prices may be expensive too. Haven's Perran Sands is another popular site, but may be expensive, both Parkdean and Haven have special offers at times, depending on availability.

Hope this helps and have a nice holiday wherever you stay

I have been going to monkey tree for 3 years now & love it. i was there last week & back down there on 20 july. I alway go into the rally field. it's a lot quieter in there & pitchers are big. We could not get into rally field when down last week because it was not open so had to stay at the bottom were i felt every body was in each others pockets. I like peace & quiet in the day but love the entertainment it as at night. best of both worlds. staff are all spot on. nothing is to much if asked about any thing. The rally field was all changed & renewed last year with all new toilets shower blocks. theres always room to get showed at any time. road noise is not a problem. get a pitch away from the A3075. I dont fish but people who do say its well stocked. My 6 year old girl loves the park it as every thing a young one likes. I went to hendra for 3 years & got flooded big time 2 years on the trott & prices for food & drink were ridicules + indoor pool prices silly to. give monkey tree a try i am sure you will come back. forgot to say rally field opens on 21st july. & free wifi if near the pub. pitchs 723 to 749 are the furthest from the road & quiet. There about 500ft away from the pub. I have one of these pitches booked.
