As we have never owned a FC before and only tourer, in which we only visited the IOW once while we had it.

Now we have a FC the missus would like to return, but don't know which campsite would be best, as we require a child friendly site with a park, FC's can use EHU, clean toilets and showers, the last been a must, as when we went in out tourer we stayed at Fairways for 2 weeks which was a nice site apart from the showers and toilets were in a run down porta cabin, locked during the night and weren't opened until 9am IIRC,but to top it of you could only gain entry through the club house itself.

We did hear that the owner was looking to build a purpose built shower block but as yet this, to my knowledge hasnt been done.

So please anyone that has stay in a FC on th IOW, please recommend me your best site.

Chris.

We took our Conway Cardinal over a few times.  Whitecliff Bay was great for young children as they had lots of activities for the during the day.  We also went to Appuldurcombe - although we went in early May and the swimming pool was closed.  I would suggest you have a look on the reviews for more up to date information as it is a couplke of years since we last went.  We are taking a trailer tent over in June to Heathfield Farm - not been there before but will leave a review after we return.

The ferry costs a fortune but if you look carefully you can save a bit by changing the ferry times until you find a cheaper crossing. It's costing me about £120 return for the car and caravan which I'm paying for with Tesco vouchers. Most sites on the island do deals including the ferry which usually work out a lot cheaper than paying for the ferry and site separately.

Chris, have a look at the the C & CC site and the CC site, also Whitfield Forest but get a pitch away from the road as it can be noisy.

Sterling 1999, how is Byfleet these days? I worked there years ago and it must have changed a lot since Brooklands became a shopping centre.

The last 3 years is not much of a change but the 30 years i have lived here a huge amount of change. Brooklands as it was is my spiritual home, how do you know I live in Byfleet?

Sorry to hijack the thread.

Iain, I must have seen your advert. I used to work in Chertsey Road in the 70's and when CAF bought the site in Berry Lane John Berry's daughter worked for us for a while. I then went to work for CAF in Staines and then opened the Leatherhead branch for them in 1982 so our paths may have crossed if I hadn't moved away.

If you're in the Caravan Club Southland CC site is lovely. A nice playground for the children, lots of other children there when we were last summer with our Camplet.

We're going to Southland in May, only £1 per night pitch fee plus the per person fee. The C & CC site at Adgestone has a playground and a pool plus a fantastic wendy house.

Iain, if you happen to see Sheila Berry ask her if she remembers the purchasing dept at Gestetner. It's a small world isn't it?

I haven't been for a few years but unless it's changed radically, Whitecliffe Bay is the most wonderful place for children. We took my daughter there two years on the run and during the second year we were talking about taking her abroad the next year. AT the end of the week she came to us an asked if, seeing that we were going to spend more money going abroad, we could go to Whitecliffe Bay for two weeks instead. Since then we've taken grandchildren and they (and us) have had a wonderful time every time. We've got a couple of younger grandchildren now and we can't wait to initiate them in the family tradition.

The Orchards is a great site - superb facilities block, in and outdoor pools, think there was a playground (no kids so didn't look!). Not sure how expensive as we did it on the RedFunnel 5 night special.

We enjoyed the Park Resorts site, Nodes Point at Bembridge.Went for the view and easy access to the beach. So much so my daughter wants to go again this year.Indoor pool and entertainment if the weather isn't great. Very clean toilet/shower block at the top of the camping field and away from the main complex. Got a bargain price for camping in July last year, £50 for camping and £45 for the ferry through Park Resorts.Loved it and we may be going again.Did a full site review last year.

Thanks for all your replies, we have now decided on White cliff Bay for 2 weeks in July, for only ££295 for a family of 4 including return ferries.

Cannot believe how much it has cost as we paid £400 for a 2 week holiday including return ferry at Fairways back in 2010. BARGAIN.

Just paid the deposit.
