Hi
We are heading here for the first time next month, reading about the area we will certainly be taking our walking boots, but was wondering whether it's worth putting the bikes on the back of the van too? Has anyone stayed here, or near the area?
I can't seem anything mentioned on the reviews for the site (which don't appear to be too great anyway! lol)
Thanks in advance

Yes I would take your bikes; the site is only a 10 minute walk along a quiet country lane from St. David's but it would be even quicker on a bike, so useful if only for that. But lots of quiet little lanes around there, if you don't mind cycling on the road.
We stayed at Caerfai Farm Campsite last summer - it is just down the same road (awesome site if you ever want to stay in the area again). Some fab walks; the one from Caerfai Bay to Porthclais along the coast path (via St Nons Chapel & well) then back inland to St.David's is really lovely (about 5 miles). I'd also recommed the one from White Sands Beach to St. David's Head - the views of the coast are amazing and you can see wild ponies on the moors and an ancient burial tomb. If you stop by the Tourist Info (just at the top of road from the campsite) you can get leaflets detailing these and other walks.
The Cathederal and Bishop's Palace in St David's are worth a visit.
Porthgain is a lovely little fishing village and probably cycleable. You can buy fresh mackerel from the fishermen there and "The Shed" is a lovely fish restaurant - great fish n chips and cream teas!
Out of everything we did, a trip to Skomer Island was the best! If you like wildlife then it is a must - literally thousnads of puffins and seals on the beaches below. Great day out!
It's a lovely area with tons to do, enjoy!

Thanks Donkers!
It's so nice to hear some good reviews of the area, I'm so looking forward to it. We are hoping for good weather, that would make it perfect!
The reviews for our actual campsite don't seem to great, but to be honest, it was the only place we could get!! Everywhere else was full. At the end of the day, our van is self contained so if the facilities are rubbish, we'll shower etc in the van.
I Googled Porthgain, looks just up our alley! Will definately pay that a visit. Was the trip to Skomer by boat? I'm not good on boats plus we'll have the dog with us so not sure if we could do that one.
Thanks again sooo much for your help and information.

Yes Caroline2209 the trip to Skomer is by boat, I'm also pretty sure that dogs aren't allowed on the island as it is a nature reserve so that proably rules that out for you. Still there are loads of lovely places to visit.
If you walk down to the campsite shop at Caerfai Farm they sell their own home made cheese, it's yummy! Just at the bottom of the road there you come to the coast path and a lovely little beach/ bay.
Also if you fancy a treat Cwtch restaurant in St. David's is really good (bit expensive but worth it) and the ice cream from "Bench" is fab.
The Blue Lagoon in Abereiddy (a flooded slate quarry) is also worth stopping by if you are passing on your bikes.
Hope you get some good weather and have a lovely time!

We were there last week, at Caefrai bay caravan and tent park which is just further down the lane, the site you mention is not up to much I am afraid, i wouldnt stay there, its just a bumpy field with a toilet and shower, someone comes round in the morning to collect your money, pub next door is derelict, on the upside, its a fabulous area, good walking on the coastal path. we took our bikes and cycled up and down the coast on the back roads, the scenery is stunning, St davids is also very nice, good pubs serving decent food, hope you have a good time although you would be better staying at Caerfai bay, fantastic facilities, wash rooms etc, i have put a review on here.
