We are a family of 6 and together with my parents (who have their own tent) we are thinking we might go somewhere together around the lake district this summer. Can anyone recommend a site that they think worth visiting. Not bothered about club or anything....a play area for the children would be good and perhaps a shop. We are not serious walkers and just hope to enjoy the scenery and eat ice-cream in the sun lol. I'm scouring the reviews but if someone could give me some starting points it would be appreciated.

Many thanks

Keswick C&CC site.  Right on the lakeside with a short walk in to Keswick itself.  Rugby club nest door if needed.

If you want quiet and not commercial have a look at the C&CC club site at Eskdale in the western lakes. Much quieter than the more popular spots around Windermere, Bowness etc and absolutely beautiful. There are an awful lot of reviews on here and very few are negative. The site is 95% tents as their nlicence doesn't allow caravans due to the access (if you go over the hardknot pass you will know what I mean).

Not sure about the sunshine you want, this is the lakes you are talking about. You don't need to be a serious walker but there are some nice strolls around. Stanleyghyll falls is quite close and worth the fairly gentle walk. The village of Boot is a short walk and has a couple of lovely pubs for eating and the Boot to Ravenglass railway is a short walk from the site and Muncaster castle is a short walk from Ravenglass.

The next dale to the north is Wastwater which is probably the loveliest view in the lakes.

Words don't adequately describe the location so here are a few photos. Not quite got them in the right order but they are 1) pass going over towards Conniston 2) Boot / Ravenglass railway 3) Campsiteview and 4) Wastwater.

Good luck with your search.

John

I have stayed at wastwater and it is a lovely and wild location.  Plus it gives an easy route up Scafell Pike.

I found Derwentwater around Keswick beautiful as well.
