The family discussion has started already.
OH wants to go back to Ullapool. I want to try somewhere new. 12 yr old wants somewhere exciting and our 2 yr old just wants to use our air bed as her personal bouncy castle AGAIN!!

So the question is...... What's your favourite site in the highlands ?

Prob 100 mile or so for the weekend. Or 2 hours drive.
We're on the north east coast just up from Inverness.
Just so much choice.......

www.treezone.co.uk we went there for the day last year ( when our DD was 12) , it will take up a good afternoon, it is well run, has an area to eat your own packed lunch as well as a cafe, has an indoor exhibition that your 12yo can't fail to enjoy ( the head on a platter trick is fab) mixed in with walking at heights, freefall on a line, treetop walk your 2 yo could do ( buggy friendly decking walk) We thought it was a good value family day out.

There will be plenty of campsites in the area.

Wow that's looks brilliant. Must admit it looks a bit pricey though. Landmark isn't too far away and although I've never been its very similar.

I can recommend Grantown which is close to Landmark and the Cairngorms. It is a good site with great washing facilities.

We're going Aviemore in the summer so this time I'll be sticking with the north west. Scenery is stunning over that side

Hi Dave, we had the same problem, so are visiting 4 sites, for our summer holiday. Starting off with a  couple of nights at Stonehaven, for the pool, amusements, seaside thing for the kids. Then two nights at Nairn Lochloy for the amusements, pool etc etc. It's the kids favourite, but me n the wife hate it because of the touring facilities. Then 5 night at Ardmair Point, past Ullapool total relaxation, brilliant views, a few day trips to beach and Ullapool for chipper etc. Then 5 nights at Bunree, Fort William, for great facilities, view, relaxation for us and pool, McD's, shops, etc etc for the kids. My 2 love Ardmair too though, so hopefully, something for the whole family.

I know it's difficult trying to get the balance of stuff for the kids and what the adults want too, so good luck.

Alex.

Hi lexx. Ardmair point sounds good. I've looked at it several times. Close enough to nip into Ullapool and far enough away to be peaceful. Hmmm now there's an idea.
Clachtoll sounds wonderful too

Aye, we've considered Clachtoll too and actually stopped in to have a look when we were out exploring. I felt that it was just a bit too remote for us, but very tempted. Another one I'd love to try is The Shore, at Achmelvich beach. We always visit the beach, but have never actually stayed on the site.

what about sands at gairloch? beautiful, the beach would be great for the little one. The campsite is big but very spreadout so you have your own space. in the middle of the tent area is a huge children's playpark where the older kids can hang out , there is an area with football goals the boys love, my 8 year old loved it, very welcoming atmosphere. Also you can have campfires on the beach, which again is something the older one would love!

we stayed there for a well last summer, and also rothiemurchus too - which we loved, but the kids mixed less there. Rothiemurchus was brilliant for cycling and at end of july whole campsite was full of blaeberries which we had fresh in our breakfast cereal every morning! we had a daytrip to landmark and really enjoyed it, very climbing orientated, much better than an average theme park which is not m thing at all. we got free tickets in part using tesco day out vouchers.

Clachtoll is fantastic. It is a bit remote but the beach there is out of this world. Site is lovely and wardens are great. Watch out for the wind though!
