Hi

Can anyone recommend a campsite that is in woodland. I have 2 girls and a dog. My girls love making dens in the forest and my cocker spaniel just loves walks in the countryside.

We would like a playground too but not fussed about a pool or entertainment.

Anywhere in England or Wales.

I don't know if you are a member of the Camping & Caravanning Club or not but if you are then 'Ebury Hill' near Shrewsbury is a secluded peaceful site enclosed in a wooded area with a small children's play area. The only down side is that although the site is cheap and has electric hook up facilities there are no toilet or shower blocks. It's an ideal location for motorhomes and caravans where we have our own onboard facilities but if you have provisions for a porta-loo and washing up then this site could be well worth considering.

Have you looked at the Forest Holidays  sites we went to Spiers House site, near Pickering in North Yorkshire and spent hours in the forest there making dens and riding on the cycle paths.

The C&CC site at Sandringham is a nice wooded site with a rustic play area but space to play in the trees as well. Plus there is a dog walk around the site perimeter through the forest. The other one we have been to is Wellington Park at Risely, near Reading. That is in woods - but you do need to beware of ticks! No play area on site, but you have full access to the big park and it's play areas. Neither are cheap though.

Oh and of course you can't beat Nantcol in Wales - with rope swings over the river, it's perfect for kids!

Clippesby in North Norfolk - den making heaven- in fact, there are a couple of permanent ones in the woods there! Plus a fab play area built by the team behind Bewilderwood (google it!)

I have boys of 13, 11 & 8 & this is their favourite site & probably ours too :)

Clumber Park campsite in Nottingham, just off the A1 [http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=9917] . Hundreds of acres of woodland to play in. We haven't actually camped there as we live fairly locally and go for the day a fair bit (usually with bikes), but the campsite looks nice and gets great reviews. There isn't a childrens play area within the campsite but there is one in the park, probably a 10 min walk away, which was only built a couple of years ago.
