have you looked at Ladycross Plantation? : http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=4323

we were at a site near Penrith last weekend and like you, left early, we hated it there, the caravans were jammed together like sardines and a tethered dog behind us kept urinating on our brand new awning, it also defecated on our pitch, as we found out when reeling in the ehu cable .
there were kids everywhere (fine, thats their holiday too), but on roller skates, bikes and scooters: doing tricks just missing our car and absolutely no parents around correcting or watching them even....couldn't wait to get off the site!

Rigg farm near Whitbu is lovely but no club and very secluded.

Coming soon to a campsite near you, Jake, Mrs Jake, Little legs, Bosdog the Doodle and Olly the Cavachon.

2014:

August: Scarborough, High Yedmandale. Not tenting though, using one of their lovely holiday homes!

Here might suit you http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=2139

It's a nice walk to Sandsend or Whitby ( along the front, beach or road,) and there are buses from right outside the site to all over. There are pubs nearby that do good food and the golf course does a carvery.

The only thing I didn't like about the site is that the pitches are a bit regimented in rows but I think thats common practice for seaside side to optimise the space.
