Brand new posters and brand new to Motorhoming! My Partners parents have a EM Ducato which they have agreed to let us use and after sorting out insurance etc - we're off to hit the roads this weekend for a practice run locally before touring Cornwall early July.

I've been using the reviews to try and find an ideal campsite for use to try this weekend, the plan is to visit the Shrewsbury area making use of our National Trust memberships and seeing the sights.

However, and obviously this is just me being out of loop, I'm surprised by the expense of staying over. It seems we can easily pay over £20 just to park the van for a night - I expected it to be more like £12-£15.

Is this just the sites I've been looking at, or the general trend?

Different sites charge different prices per night, depends what your looking for on a site. We pay about £20 - £25 per night when its just me and the OH, when we have our grandchildren its a lot more.

You might want to think about getting membership with the Caravan and camping club, where you can get sites at a lot less cost. Saying that there are sites out there, at the cost you expected you just need to look around for them, have a look on camp site search.

And welcome to UKCS.

Hello and Welcome!

I have a Campervan and we like to go to cheaper sites and have found some sites that are usually just outside of all the popular areas... i.e instead of right in the centre of the seaside, we go just outside, usually we pay around £10-£15 per night with Electric Hook Up.

There have been times where we have had to pay a lot more than this.. but it is rare!

Sites are in the range £8 to £40 per night. The club certificated sites can be basic & at the cheaper end but the clubs own sites are much dearer.
There are cheaper private sites. Those private "all singing" sites will be expensive.

It is easy to find sites at £15.

We have just returned to caravanning after a couple of years break and we are amazed at the increase of site prices.

We can accept that market forces, coupled with the 'staycation' idea has moved up the private site pitch costs, but the two main clubs attitude (run by the members for the members) to price increases over the last few years has been nothing short of disgraceful.
