We did this last year started south and worked our way up, we stopped at so many places, proper sites, mountains, beaches. We found it easier to look at somewhere we fancied on the map and head that direction but if we found somewhere that looked nice on route we stopped there and made it up as we went along, We used our SUV with a side awning, x2 adults x2 kids and had a mix of sites and wild camping, brilliant time. I'll try to think of some good places.
