after a fantastic weekend at billing aquadrome (northampton) i was wondering where in the north west is nice? we have gone down south a few times as my mum has a (petrol) motor home so its expensive to come all the way up here in it, all this wkend my parents have been in our folding camper as its so spacious (and my 4.5yr old wanted nanny to sleep in his new camper) the only thing the motorhome got used for is my dad sleeping in it but as we can make the table into a 3rd bed its pointless them wasting there petrol to come up here (they may as well bring the car and camp in with us) sorry all that just to ask wheres nice in N.W lol

Depends what sort of site you prefer I suppose, but if you like peace and quiet then I can highly recommend Wyreside Farm Park at St. Michael's near Garstang. Level site with only 10 pitches, all ehu, and although it's in a village you don't hear any traffic noise, it really is peaceful. Sheep nearby and free range hens - you can buy their eggs - nice riverside walk close by and a pub which serves food just a couple of minutes walk from the site entrance. Garstang itself is a nice little market town, and Blackpool, Fleetwood and Lytham St. Annes aren't that far away.

If you wanted to be further away there is always the Lake District with a huge choice of sites. Or what about north east Wales, Llangollen area, or around Chester? We have stayed at Thornleigh Park Farm and Astbury Villa near Chester and liked both, there is James's near Ruabon or if you want to push the boat out, the Plassey near(ish) Wrexham. We stayed at a nice site at Llangollen some years ago but it's gone over to statics now so can't comment on sites there.

Also in the Llangollen area is Station Camp Site, 7 miles west of Llangollen itself and just off the main A5. Lovely farm-based site next to the River Dee and surrounded by beautiful countryside, nice pub just across the river which does meals, and the end of the Llangollen steam railway just across the lane. Your son might like that, they hold Thomas the Tank Engine weekends during school holidays. The drive along the A5 passes some lovely scenery and Llangollen itself is a nice little town, it's also a nice drive to Betws-y-Coed and Bala lake where there's a miniature steam railway along part of the lake.

oooh now i hadnht thought of llangollen, i have been there for a few day trips, i think thats the one for us! it has the trains for my son, some lovely walks although the viaduct there frightened me so much i got a quater of the way over and had to more or less crawl back and when we went over on a boat my eyes were closed tight lol ( im not usualy a scardy cat but thats not a walk i want to do again)

I love that aquaduct and I've been across it a few times - definitely not for the faint hearted, especially if it's windy! I've not been across it in a boat yet but I've got friends who have and they said because there's no rail on one side you get the feeling of being suspended in mid air. I took my son and dil there a couple of months ago, dil wouldn't walk across to get to the pub so I had to drive round.
