If you wanted to be further away there is always the Lake District with a huge choice of sites. Or what about north east Wales, Llangollen area, or around Chester? We have stayed at Thornleigh Park Farm and Astbury Villa near Chester and liked both, there is James's near Ruabon or if you want to push the boat out, the Plassey near(ish) Wrexham. We stayed at a nice site at Llangollen some years ago but it's gone over to statics now so can't comment on sites there.

I love that aquaduct and I've been across it a few times - definitely not for the faint hearted, especially if it's windy! I've not been across it in a boat yet but I've got friends who have and they said because there's no rail on one side you get the feeling of being suspended in mid air. I took my son and dil there a couple of months ago, dil wouldn't walk across to get to the pub so I had to drive round.
